noob questions

ive got a few questions about the evo viii that were going to get blessed with this year. im thinking about getting a base model 350z, and hoping that theres a following with the vq series motor, or defecting and buying a lancer evo viii with a tried and true motor. but im trying to learn more about the car so here they are.
1: the 4G63 motor, how bullet proof is this thing, and is it pretty much the exact same motor as the eclipse gsx??
2: the build quality of mitsu's dont be biased, any ups or downs??
3: the transmission, if putting down considerably more than stock torque does the tranny require a full dogged out box?
thanks,
franklinz
even though its a nissan check her out! http://www.netsnapshot.com/pcw/b?KEY=0&ACCOUNT=4307

Welcome

Here you go:
1) Iron block w/ aluminum head very strong. Internals especially on later model EVO are quite good. Up to 1.3bars of boost without problems.
2) Pretty good quality. But what you guys get in America will probably be a little different from the rest of the world. For better for or worse, is yet to be seen. The AYC/ ACD nice ideas, but whether it will be practicle during race applications...only time will tell.
BRAKES: real improvement over older models (EVO I - IV) but change the lines and pads.
HEADLIGHTS: nice styling but the bulbs themselves are below par (weak)
SEATS: nice styling but not really made for racing or long drives. Kind of compromise of the two, racing application/ driving comfort.
3) TRANNY: I have RS close-ratio 5 speed tranny...no problems what so ever...BUT the stock clutch is below par (IMO)
Last but not least... the newer chasis of EVO VII-VIII are larger and heavier..while I like the styling the car just felt big and heavy. Don't ge me wrong it still had get up and go...but I would have liked to test drive it at higher speeds on corners to "feel" the difference between the NEW and OLD.

Hope this helped a little....PEACE

Also I heard that the clutch is uprated but no one can confirm this yet. As for the weight, it almost all comes from the reinforced bumpers which are good and the increased structural reenforcement which helps handling at the limits. Regardless it will be fast and very easy to make faster. Im just glad we are finally getting it.

I am still waiting for some official weight numbers to see how much heavier it will be then an Evo. The switch to a new 2.5 is a good thing as long as it is a strong 2.5 and not some rehash of the 2.5 RS motor. Heard its still almost all bore and no twin scroll turbo plus the compression will probly be the same low 8.0 so more then like the engine will seriously lack in the kind of low end charechteristics possible in the Evo. Remember as far as whether or not it will be faster is still anyones guess but mine is that it will lose to 60 bearly beat the Evo to the 1/4 mile and lose all handling/braking tests. With the price difference you can very easily get 300HP 300TQ in an evo 8 too.

My 2 cents

PS This is my 400th post. I should be Evolved now

no i was talking about the sti.. were you feeling threated by it?? lol seriously though im still kind of twisted between the two
sti looks a bit better in my opinion, and makes a tad more power,
but then again the evo is cheaper, looks pretty good, and easier to work on than a flat 4.
