05' Goes in for diff probs again...

Well, at 1850 miles the car went to the shop for diff issues as some of you may remember, they replaced the rear diff, that didnt help. They ended up bleeding air out of the center diff hydraulic line. Car was fine.

We noticed a creaking/clicking noise once we got it back, it has gotten louder ever since, it only happens when your engaging the clutch from a stop and turning, like pulling away from a stop to turn left or right. Well, now the issues with the rears locking up while turning is back, the drivetrain binds up on hard turns moving slow. So I assume the center diff hydraulic line needs to be bleed again.

It sound like air is getting into the system when it shouldn't indicating a small leak or some sort?

I remember hearing about problems with a few cars and the center diff, any update from the other folks? I'm sure the dealer will just bleed the line and it will be fine for another few thousand miles, But I would really like the problem fixed.

For reference... 05' Evo RS, 4500 miles currently.

hey man, ask the dealer if when they replaced the diff, did they add the new friction modifier to your rear diff and center diff, if they didnt, you will still have the clicking/ ratching sound. if they say they havent heard of the modifier, tell them it is p/n ME581050.

Usually when you see something like this recurring the car will never be right. Something will always go wrong. Ask for a new car. The dealer would probably be grateful to get rid of the headaches.

They replaced the rear diff and bleed air from the center diff line.

If the friction modifier was not added to the fluid would the entire diff have to be replaced again? or just add the fluid? The noise has definatley gotten progressively louder since it was replaced

PS I sent u a PM with the vin number...

it depends the first step they were suppose to do was to unload the visc. clutches, flush the diff, the drain it, add the container of modifier and the refill diff with lsd oil. retest the diff (drive car kinda hard, arround a loop on ramp on a highway at about 95mph will do it) see if the noise comes back, if not it is fixed, if it's still there replace the diff with a new one, and add the modifier and the lsd oil again. mitsu's tech line isnt 100% sure what is causing the diffs to make so much noise, but that is what is suppose to happen when a dealer gets one making the noise.

Thanks man, yeah, looks like they put in regular diff fluid and not the lsd stuff and forgot the diff modifier. My questions is, now is the rear diff ruined? or will simply removing the fluid and putting in the correct one fix the issue?

you cant just drain the fluid in these cars, you have to unload the rear diff, in a large parking lot and low speeds, turn the wheel untill you hit the lock and cant turn anymore, and do circles about 6-7 times one way and 6-7 times the other way, then immediatly put the car on a lift, let the fluid drain for a few mins, the add the modifier and lsd fluid. but i would tell the dealer and have them do it free, since they screwed up.

Have them do it, meaning replace the diff again? I guess if the wrong fluid was in for several thousand miles I would assume damage was done and I dont want that diff.
