Help on EGT install

I'll be installing my EGT gauge this weekend and have already done a search about where/how to install the probe...not MUCH help. Does anybody have any pics of where/how to drill?

I mounted mine on top of the manifold, not on the runners but where all the runners meet towards the middle.

Np pics, but this is how I did it on my 2G back in the day.
"between 4" and 8" from the #1 cylinder (cylinder closest to belts)"

With the motor running, drill your hole.
Start with a small bit and work your way up to the size your need. When using the tap, don't go too deep (npt).

Closest to the left so you can pass the wires under the cover..

Removing the manifold and drilling is the best way to avoid shards getting into your turbo..

Too bad EvoMoto went out of business, they has an awesome how-to that I used. I tapped runner #2 because they said that that ran the hottest. And after you drill into the manifold, you should use a tap with the size that corrasponds to your probe to thread it. Also, be sure to use gobs of cutting lube or you will wear your bits down.

It seems that everyone has a different opinion on how to do this. I asked quite a few reputable tuners before I did mine. Here is what I came up with. I tapped #1 Runner from the hole that is used to mount the exhuast shield. I did it with the car off and drilled very slowly blowing out the bits with compressed air often. When I was close to breaking through I used a shop vac rigged up to use 1/4 inch plastic hose to get into the manifold and suck out the bits. After I broke through I spent about 10 minutes sucking out any bits with the shop vac with the plastic tubing rig. When I started the engine, I did not hear any bits going through the turbo. It worked great. The only bit of advice that I would ignore is the suggestion to mount it 4-8 inches away from the head. It should be as close as possible to get accurate readings. I drilled mine in the post for the heat shield for a nice neat mount, but that is up to you. Good luck.

Would you guys, who did the install yourselves, mind showing us some pics of your setup? Detailed, if possible. If you need a pic host... email them to me and I can resize and post for ya.

thanks in advance...

drill it on cylinder #2, closer to the turbo therefore more accurate readings without much temperature changes. Evomoto recommended to do it there.

More pics would be nice, I'm a little worried about doing it on the car...if I remove it do I need a new gasket?

I thought it was suppose to be on the downpipe or is this the WB 02 sensor that I'm confusing it with? What will be the difference?
