Oil coming out from exhaust manifold?? (HELP!!!)
Oil coming out from exhaust manifold?? (HELP!!!)
Hey guys,
I am having oil sipping out from my exhaust manifold flange where it bolt onto the head. Any idea where that might be coming from?

How much is it, a lot or a little? Could be road grime. I have what looks like oil around the edge of the header at the gasket. I think that its stuff that I have picked up from the road though.
Well sorry to say, but that definitely looks like your valve seals. If so, you'll have to pull the head to get them fixed. Are you blowing blue smoke out your exhaust? Have you had to add any oil recently? When did you notice leak?

It is definantly your valve seals man. I had the same problem with my evo. I checked the gasket and put a new one on but that didn't solve the problem. So then i checked oil seals and they were all messed up! Got new ones, and now look at me!
Valve seal issues? Hmmm...do any of you guys have bigger cams? This reminds me of the "Any damage to stock valvetrain" thread.
There is an oil passage behind one of the studs for the exhaust manifold. Im sure it is leaking and thats all. Its a very common problem on DSMs. Have you removed the manifold before? I would just remove the manifold, replace the gasket, tighten the hell out of all the studs and put it all back together. Im sure its nothing terrible if your not blowing a ton of smoke out the back.
