Transfer case question (and problems)
They seem to be - I havent heard of any transimission or tcase problems on the 05. I have heard of some problems with the rear diff, just have it inspected and make sure all the fluid levels are good and you will have no problems.
i have been having transfer case whining noise problem for about a month now. should this be something the dealer should take care of? cuz i have a lot of parts on the car that i had to take off when i had to go get smogged, and id hate to have to take them all off again a second time. im thinking about just picking up a used cheap one from someone. how do you distinguish between tranny or transfer case problems? and should i get this whining noise fixed ASAP or can i hold out for awhile until i save up for a new tcase?
If the sound happens when the car is still in neutral (decel) then it is your tcase. If it is your tcase *I* recommend replacing it as soon as possible. From what I have read and heard if the tcase truly fails all 4 wheels will lock up.
03 Evo tranny's suck. Mitsu actually has TSB's out on the tranny recommending updating the syncro's. That's prolly what is causing all of the problems. With the t-case problems it's cause they come from the factory mis-aligned.
Agent-Smith, I bet your problem comes from the fluid they are using. I would find out about that. My evo's got 42k miles on her now. I have the decel noise but my t-case is good so far.

Dude how do u blow 2 tcases? seriously you must be a very aggressive driver. Also - be sure to put in redline diff oil. Put the good stuff in there. Take care of the 3rd one.

Before you go spouting off at the mouth, both of the cases were defective (incorrectly shimmed from the factory). Redline fluids are known for eating the synchros in our cars so I am not to sure about the lsd fluid either. I had them in my car at one time and really did not notice that big of a difference.
I'm still on the search for a good fluid. Guess I won't find that fluid untill I get a rebuild on both the tranny and t-case. Then they might work correctly and I will use the fluid they recommend.

At anything over ~14 psi I start to get a VERY loud WHRRRRRRRRR sound (gears?) that is louder than the turbo hiss. I checked a couple of times and this does not happen unless the car is up to operating temperature.
I am thinking maybe they did not put enough fluid in the TC?
