Transfer case question (and problems)

Alright so I am now on my 3rd transfer case (nice build quality mitsu!). Anyhow I got the car back yesterday and everything seems well. I let her warm up fully and merge on to the interstate - i go WOT for a very short period just to check things out, thats when the problems begin.

At anything over ~14 psi I start to get a VERY loud WHRRRRRRRRR sound (gears?) that is louder than the turbo hiss. I checked a couple of times and this does not happen unless the car is up to operating temperature.

I am thinking maybe they did not put enough fluid in the TC?

mechanical whrr. Yup it only does it at wot. Doesnt seem like the turbo though because it still spools perfectly and holds boost just fine. (ebc set at 19)

pull your drain plug and see if it has abnormal amount of metal shavings or chunks, if it doesnt just put a different fluid in it as long as the fluid is a lsd type

Im to a point where having a car that is down really angers me.; I have not reccomended anyone to buy this car due to mechanical build quality. Some of these issues are simply unexusable...certainly if failure occurs for the 3rd time.

Take a sample out of the fluid and have it analyzed. Alot of mitsu techs are known to be dumb asses and put the wrong fluids in!!

Scott - Barry said that he got the same sound. He found that the fluid level was low, he topped it off and the sound went away. BTW, redline fluid rocks.

It does sound like they are filling the transfer case with the wrong oil or the gears are being heavily loaded before they get a chance to bed-in.

Call the dealer, get a hold of the parts department and ask them to check stock on this number, 3775610. If they haven't ordered this oil before then we can assume that they haven't been adding the correct oil to the transfer case.

If you ask me the chances of getting 3 bad/defective transfer cases is almost none. It certainly sounds like the dealership may be doing something wrong with the lubrication.

So far the tranny problems are only on the 03' and 04' models. The 05's have the new active centeral differential (this is housed in the tcase).
