Cool Simple way to tell if your clutch is dying

probably really obvious to some but may be helpful to others......

put your car on a flat level surface depress the clutch and engage first gear.
If the car moves foward even just a little then this means your clutch is low.

Even easier,
put car in 5th see if it stalls when trying to go from a stop.

I believe there is another thread on this phenomenon. The cause is not the clutch going bad, it usually is due to colder weather causing the transmission fluid to "thicken" thus grabbing the rotating parts of the transmission, causing it to roll a little bit. It will even occur in neutral once in a while.

^^but after it rolls it would stop for itself.
and the times it happened to me...i pulled down the gearbox and found that my twin disc clutch was all messed up.

for example....at the drag track...
i went up to the line and stopped.....engaged first and red lighted because the car started moving foward even though my clutch was straight down....
floored it though and in fourth felt the slip...

the clutch also could be adjusted wrong... on my aftermarket one i can adjust the pedal .. and if its not adjusted right then when it is all the way at the floor the clutch isnt fully engaged... the most obvious way to tell that your clutch is gone is when you get on the gas the rpm's will shoot up without the car going anywhere... but i guess that is common sense

Yeah how about the good old fashioned way of watching your tach and noticing the car not accelerating as fast as the RPMs should indicate? That's your slipping clutch. Best tried in 5th.

That is usually an indication of a bad slave cylinder. Not a clutch.

This makes perfect sense. Put the car in 5th at about 2500 RPMs and floor it and wait for the slip, its very apparent when it happens. Time for a ACT clutch!
