Engine part & labour pricing for a fully moded engine ?

Hello ,
Well to make it short, i'm living in a country pretty much far from everything, and lacking the skilled pple to make my modder's life easy. Here labour time & parts pricing is awfully expensive. ( ie: 10.5 hotside = 1600 $ , etc.. )
Being 3 hours plane from Sydney , i gave a call to the guys at Croydon Racing Development, wich maybe some of you guys heard about. ( http://www.croydonracingdevelopments.com ) They are pretty famous in the car scene down here , and did put their hands in a few record holder drag racing cars. ( ie http://www.exvitermini.com )

So the guy came back to me with some pricing, based on the fact that I'd use a new engine , not my current one , and that i'd send my car over there for tunning etc. What i'm asking you guys is to tell me if the pricing seems correct to your standards , as for me well its damn cheap compared to what i can have here.
Last thing , i went in serious modding there , as I don't intend to send the car there more than 1 time.
( price converted in US $ )

Parts :

Base engine ( used ) : 2100
Jun 2.2 L stroker kit : 6160
Jun Plenum & Throttle body : 3150
Metal head gasket : 365
ARP Head Studs : 140
ARP Main studs : 98
Timing & balance belts : 250
Oil, filters , plugs , & various small stuff : 400 - 600
Sard injectors 4 x 1000cc : 840
Sard Fuel pressure regulator & adapters : 280
Sard Surge tank and 2 x pumps + all fittings : 2660
SS exhaust manifold ( tubular & Equal length ) : 525
Garret GT35R : 1575
Tial 44mm Wastegate : 595
Fitting kit for turbo assy : 250

Service :
Boring , honing , chem clean , mill block , balance engine : 595
full head port & service : 1225
remove & reinstall engine & tranny from car : 1260
Strip engine & rebuild : 3150

Appart from that they offer me a complete Motec setup for 4550$ tunned.

Roughly that brings me the total setup to : 19588$ worth of parts ( without engine management ) , 6230$ labour , and 4550 for the engine management. All in all , worst case scenario 30368 $. I asked the guy for a setup to acheive 500 whp on 100 octane , and he priced me this setup.
What do you guys think ?

it cost me ~$7800 US to have my blown motor replaced by the dealer... that's the only answer I've got for you

That represents the most ridiculously expensive route to 500hp I've seen yet. Why doesn't he offer to sell you the moon along with it? After all, he's included everything but the kitchen sink.

You DO NOT need the following to make 500hp:

Jun 2.2 L stroker kit : 6160
Jun Plenum & Throttle body : 3150
Metal head gasket : 365
ARP Main studs : 98
Oil, filters , plugs , & various small stuff : 400 - 600
Sard injectors 4 x 1000cc : 840
Sard Fuel pressure regulator & adapters : 280
Sard Surge tank and 2 x pumps + all fittings : 2660
Tial 44mm Wastegate : 595
Motec setup for 4550$

Service :
Boring , honing , chem clean , mill block , balance engine : 595
full head port & service : 1225
Strip engine & rebuild : 3150

- Leave the stroker kit alone, you don't need it.
- Don't need plenum and TB
- Don't need the main studs
- 840 for injectors is stupid money
- Don't need the 44m wastegate
- Don't need all that machine work

Etc., et al.

Basically, they've tried to sell you 500hp for 1000hp worth of parts and machining - most of which you just don't need.

The price you quoted is the cost of a new EVO 8. If this seems ridiculous, that's because it is. A more cost effective alternative is to get yourself a new EVO 8 engine and price the following:

HKS 280 cams
Cam Gears
Upgraded Valve Springs
ARP Head Studs
ARP Rod Bolts
950cc Injectors
255lph Walbro pump
GT35R Turbo, Wastegate, and Fittings
Equal Length Manifold
Better IC
Better BOV

- Everything else is windowdressing and needless expense. Furthermore, 400-600 on oil, filter, plugs and 'small stuff' is a prime example of why the prices you quoted are wholly excessive.

- You don't require any machining with a new EVO 8 engine, or even a new one in good condition. If you want to port the head, ok, but it's unecessary to get 500hp.

- Forget the Motec. Get the new Autronic EVO standalone kit for less than half the price.

I could go on, but you get the idea. Spend $30k USD to get 500hp and you've been had.

Ok thanks for the advice,
I had the prices in my country for reference , and here everything is more expensive. I bought my evo 7 for about 50k used ( 2 years old ) for exemple.
The problem i see with buying all the parts etc , is that i'm not sure it would be cost effective to assemble it here. When i changed my exhaust manifold , we broke a bolt insite the stock hotside , it took 2 days and 300+$ to a machining company to take the bolt out and rethread the hole. And the guy told me he shouldn't have taken the job , but only did because every other company refused it .
If i need a custom downpipe or whatever, nobody can make it here.

It would be a lot better for me to buy the parts one at a time , as I can pass that through my company and not pay anything , its just that i'm quiet worried to have the car sitting on jackstands for a few weeks while waiting for pple to come from overseas fix a problem.

Problem with tunning also is that nobody can do it here. I'd have to pay a guy to come tune it .

It sure is expensive though. btw new evo 7 engine quoted just now by mitsu dealer : 21k usd ... stock.
Oh well i guess i'll have to send my mechanic on training somewhere or pay mechanics from some other country to come do the job .
Thanks for the help.

Have you tried APS, air power systems, their stuff is really expensive but they seem to know what they are doing. Their turbo kit is like 10k though.
