Most incredible, fantastic gains from this mod
OK, I just got my JDM MR diverter valve today. I bought it from another guy in the forums (thanks bigjhoney). I could not wait to install it so right after work I opened the hood, loosened the clamps, pulled hard on the stock BOV and promptly cut my thumb on something, ouch! that hurt a little but the worst thing was bleeding all over everything. Had to clean up all around in there, what a biotch
Anyways, I got my new aluminum JDM MR DV installed in there, a bandaid on my thumb, tightened all the clamps and drove out to go home...... Holy cow! what a difference, the car runs much smoother, the gas mileage improved, and it feels like it has another 20 whp!!
OK, OK, I'm joking a little bit, but really, maybe it's just a placebo effect but I swear the car runs a lot better. I was thinking about how silly this was because obviously the BOV cannot possibly make the car run smoother or more strongly.... Can it? It did seem to hold boost better under all different conditions. I swear that I never thought that the BOV might have something to do with that, but I might have been wrong.... Anyway, whatever the reason I think the car runs better than it did before I upgraded the BOV. This is weird, I never expected to feel any change at all...... I'm still thinking it's all a placebo effect, but I'll enjoy it while I can

I was asking about BOV difference on a past post. I was questioning the BOv as well because the buttdyno was saying that bov does make a difference. I tried turbo xs rfl, 1g, and hks and each was different. The car just spools better and made more torque using the turbo xs. Driveability wasn't that great though.

Actually, I'm rather amazed by this experience. I really did not expect any changes from the BOV, certainly no improvements. I'm afraid I'm sounding like a self deluded person. I'm very skeptical when it comes to these things because I've been severely disappointed by claims that sounded much more believable.......

My guess is what you are feeling is a result of a smoother powerband. Basically the new spring is giving you a smoother flow control. In other words, where the diaphram may stick just a bit, the piston is going to smoothly adjust.
There are a lot of these mods out there that don't necessarily make more power as they make the power you have work differently. DV, MBC, oil, etc

difficulties encountered
Well, what I did to cut my right thumb was to reach under the radiator hose to install the new BOV and cut my right thumb on some sharp edge under there. Actually, the hardest thing to do was to pull off the vacuum hose off the stock BOV.... That sucker was firmly stuck on the nipple. Another hard thing was sliding the little hose clamp back down over the end of that little hose upon re-assembly.
All in all it was a relatively simple thing to do. The only part I removed for ease of assembly was the cold air intake snorkel. The only tools you need are a phillips screwdriver, a little socket and ratchet wrench for the bottom screw clamp and some needle nose pliers. Oh yeah, you might want some lubricant to lubricate the new BOV so you can push it back into the various hoses, and something I have but did not use before cutting my thumb
, which are some disposable rubber gloves.

Wow, you guys need to be more careful!
The trick I use to crack the stuck hoses off is to stick a small screw driver or pick in between the hose and BOV to break the seal. You can probably run the pick around the edge to break more of the seal. Then you should be able to rock it back and forth or twist it out. Brute force usually leads to bruises and cuts. hehe..
BTW, I felt the same "placebo" after I installed my JDM MR DV.

you all cut your fingers on the radiator fan shroud...next time you are under the hood, touch the metal cover that is around the fan...its VERY sharp!! ive cut my fingers on it a few times as well installing and removing the DV
No problem silverevo8, glad your enjoying it. I felt a difference also, it was holding boost alot better, but for some reason with my car, with the tons of traffic I go through everyday, it didnt work to well. pyrovice, I know www.kingofimports.com, should have them in stock, nice people, and ship promtly.
I actually did an experiment with the OEM plastic valve. I put it on a scale and pushed down on the valve to see what happened... It seems to open before 16 p.s.i. (19 pounds of force applied less the weight of the BOV divided by the area of the inlet) ....
Later, I rigged up a soft plastic plug with a 0-35 p.s.i. gauge and inserted a needle type nozzle through a small drilled hole (very tight fit, no leaks) at an angle so it came out beside the gauge inlet. I plugged the BOV inlet from the intake tube with this rig and pumped air into it with a small hand pump... I found that the valve spring would not hold more than 15 p.s.i. before opening
I'm not completely sure, but it seems that the plastic BOV begins to leak boost well below the 19 psi rating....
I did not test the jdm MR BOV.... It might be interesting to see what it does....
