TITANIUM CON ROD CLEARANCE MEASURED AT 0,085 mm ?
Hi,
Two months ago i bought a set of titanium con rods in order to use it in my EVO VI TM project. The clearance we measured is 0,085 mm on stock and also on an HKS forged crank. The manual says that the apper value should be up to 0,055 mm, the value we measured already in stock parts.
Do you know by expierence if clearances regarding titanium rods is allowed to reach such values (0,085 mm) or it's propably a manufacture miss ?
Thanks in advance

I colleague of mind has limited ti rod experience with turbo 962 group c engines from the mid 80's, they ran their rod to crank clearance @ .0055 - .0065. The thinking was the big end didnt expand that much compared to steel rods, so they ran their clearances a bit larger. Their engine would run 24 hour events problem free.....
94awd is correct with suggesting a larger clearance w/ti rods
So .0033" or .085 mm should be safe. Be sure that your side clearance is ~.007 - .009. They had plasma coated side surfaces, not sure how the oliver rods were delivered to you.
Hope this helps out & good luck.
