Evo/Eclipse 4g63

Hey hows it going guys. Soon enough I'll be the proud owner of a 2003 Mits Evo Lancer 8.

Now what I want to know is this. Mits website said it's coming with the 4g63 engine. Now if i'm not mistaken thats the GST/GSX Engine. Well we all know that the Turbo eclipse had tons of aftermarket parts. What I want to know is the day I drive off with the Evo can I call up Crower and JE and get some camshafts pistons and rods?

Thanks guys

not exactly...the 4g63 in the T.E.L are different for the most part. I am sure there will be parts out there from previous evos but most parts and the resaerch hasn't been done really to make these parts yet for the new evo...correct me if i am wrong.

The DSM 4G63 is closer to EVO I-III 4G63 with the same orientation (located on the right hand side of the engine bay when your facing the car) while the 4G63 from EVO IV-VIII is located on the "opposite" side. In addition, their compression ratio, bore and stoke are also different. Therefore, I would doubt you can use a lot of the parts designed for the DSM 4G63 in the EVO VIII.

Don't worry, you have the entire Japanese aftermarket with tons of products already developed for this engine. It will be just a matter of time for the US market to import them and for US tuners to develop new parts...

I assumed Ralliart upgrade would still keep the warranty in-place as long as they're installed by Mitsubishi...that's my guess.

From my brochure the stroke & bore remain the same. I havn't looked into the crank pin & journal measurements. Get a factory service manual and look it up. If they are the same as a 2g DSM then you can use the same rods (oil hole points to the thrust side of the bore. Also you can use the aftermarket pistons keeping the thrust orientation the same. Cams are not interchangable with a DSM. You can always have custom rods and pistons made, they just take 4-6 weeks to recieve. Crower and JE are more than happy to make you whatever you want.

Why you would want to do this before you blow the motor is beyond me.

Yeah, why so concerned about engine internals? Stock 4G63s are stock suckers Worry about boost and tuning first. I've seen lots of people talk about how they're going to get this or that high-end part right away, but I haven't seen any mention of people getting boost and EGT gauges. These will be your friends though many modded miles

Yes, tuning tuning tuning and more tuning. This cannot be stressed enough. You can make awesome power on stock 4G63 internals with the correct combination of parts and some knowledge. My personal 2G (with weaker & thinner rods than a 1G) and a few around the shop are making over 450whp on completely stock internals and we have never had a rod let go or some other catostrophic failure happen. Detonation is horrible on bearings/rods/pistons and must be avoided. Of course you have the guy that sprays a 75shot at 2500rpm and bends his rods around the crank like twizzlers, but that's an extreme example of cylinder pressure.
I think we'll see some very high HP numbers out of the EVO 8 using stock internals.

fiberglass doors, sounds interesting. i've never seen anybody do this mod except on race cars, i would think you would have problems with them cracking and warping, also i've never seen them for sale for any car. if done well it might be good though, but you might save weight more easily by taking out the recaros and putting in carbon fiber racing seats, carbon fiber trunk might save some weight too. also you don't need a carbon fiber wing because the stock one is mostly carbon fiber. if you are gonna be as serious about saving weight as to put in fiberglass doors you might think about taking out the stereo and air conditioning too. also i don't think plexiglass windows would be very practical for a street car, easy to break in and you might have problems with uv rays from the sun discoloring and or warping them.

edit: seems like if you are gonna go through all this trouble to make you car handle this well you should go as far as you can with the easier stuff first. its like the show cars that have carbon fiber hoods and then a 10 ton stereo in the trunk. i just think if your gonna go for all out performance than go for all out performance if you get what i mean.

to answer your weight question............the Evo weighs about 3263 lbs without sunroof and 3298 lbs with the sunroof. as far as mods go, I think you're better off waiting it out till RALLIART comes to the US dealers. you can do whatever mods you want and still be covered under warranty. if you want to see these mods, find Xtreme Automobiles under your search and you'll find their website in the UK. they are an official RALLIART dealer. just look at their X cars and see the pure potential of the Evo. I think you'll like and these parts will be available here. happy tuning.
