Problem when power shifting?
Hi guys, i am running 1.5 bar of boost, when i was on stock fuel pump i was not having any problem with my power shifts.........then i installed the walbro 255lph pump and now when i power shift my car seems to loose power...there is no boost drop but the engine sound is differnt as if something is grinding really hard inside as if no oil or like lack of fuel...at first i thought it was my clutch but the clutch seems to hold fine the 1.5 bar boost if i am not power shifting and if it was the cluth the there would have been slipage when shifting but there is non.....i cant think of any reason of this happening apart from thiniing that there is something wrong with the fuel pump.....please advise?????

I learnt the hard way. Tried doing it and miss 2nd and third. Hope my tranny did not get fawk up. The car seems okay and can go into gear but I have not tried shifting at high rpm yet. Any signs for me to look for to see whether the tranny or something else is bad?
Seriously guys, powershifting is key to good ET at the dragstrip, it's worth atleast 2 tenths. IMHO it's foolish to think powershifting a mitsu awd tranny is any different than powershifting an SRT4 tranny or RWD trans. What does the # of outputs the tranny have and what wheels they go to have anything to do with leaving the throttle to the floor. nothing.
I have made as of last weekdnd 107 dragstrip passes in my shops evo. 75% of them were powershifting every gear change. Trans shift perfect every time and I have not broken anything.
keeping your throttle on the floor while shifting is completely inconsiquential to breaking parts. If you miss the shift....what happens...you sit on the soft rev limiter for a few seconds. Your engine can sit on that rev limmiter for 2 minutes with no damage.
what breaks parts is missing the shift and grinding the teeth on the synco. That is just USER ERROR. the throttle being down at the same time has nothing to do with that. If you grind gears, it's becuase you let the clutch out before the gear was engaged fully.

I think you can't truely power shift in the evo unless maybe you have stiffer shifter bushings and SS clutch lines.
I 've tried it a couple of times & it always seems like I hit a wall when I shift from 1st to 2nd, and it never goes into 2nd.
I wouldn't do it all the time but I just wanted to see how the car would accelerate.

ok i guess i should reiterate.. if you dont have alot of drag time or know your car, dont powershift, cause you dont get to many times to screw up..

I don't recomend anyone powershift the trans, unless they are confident they can time the clutch engagement perfectly and not wait for the shifter to feel like it's engaged.
The original poster sounds to me like he might have a knock issue, and the harsh engagement might be setting of the ecu's knock ign retard and pulling out the power.
fuel slosh in the tank is a non issue, as the evo fuel tank is baffled really well even with only 2 gallons in the tank.
