Fuel Pump Wires Extremely Hot
Fuel Pump Wires Extremely Hot
Hi Guys,
ive just rebuilt my Evo 5 and have shifted my N70 car battery to the rear.
The problem is, whenever i go for 2~3 pulls my fuel pump wires goes extremely hot and seems some wires started to show sign of melting.
Ive added 30amp relay and its still the same.
Some says, its due to insufficient Grounding and i wonder is there any way of improving the problem? I am concern when the wires got too hot, it will reduce voltage to the fuel pump.
Im running on Aeromotive 340L pump.
Is there a way, where we could connect/ bypass a + wire direct & - Ground
to the fuel pump wires?
Currently the Fuel pump wires is from front main Fuel Box back to rear fuel pump. Is it possible to connect wires from rear battery + & - terminal direct to fuel pump wires?
If yes, pls do kindly advise.
Thank you.

I suggest you buy a fuel pump rewiring kit with its own relay. Right now you are powering the pump from the battery in the trunk, all the way to the front of the car's distribution block and then back to the rear to the fuel tank. That's a lot more resistance. And that pump pulls a lot!
Stop driving or your car until it's resolved or it may catch on fire!

OEM wiring is notorious for not be enough for aftermarket pumps. Order a rewire kit, or hardwire the pump using the OEM wiring to switch a relay, and a 10 gauge wire directly from the battery (with a fuse) to power the pump through that new relay.

It says he put in a 30amp relay kit.
Any more info on this and how it was installed?
Usually hot wires would indicate either a bad ground or you are pulling to much amperage through improperly sized cabling.

Thank you Guys and how should i improve the :
1) Grounding? Do i need to connect a Ground wire from the battery - Negative terminal directly to the from chassis?
2) Can kindly share a link where i can purchase a Rewire Kit?
Yes, one of my mech friend said the same as Michael and yes, some wires to my fuel pump is irregular size.
Will take some pics and post it here later

There's 1 wire which seems to connect to 2 wire together (1+2) is extremely hot below the rear passenger seat and the rest is exactly near to the fuel pump socket.
Will take some photos and reconfirm again tmr.

Hi MrFred, sorry for the delay and here are the pictures for your kind comment.
On the picture no.2, its the wire which welded and lump onto 2 wires. This is the on wire is hot and other wires around this wire no sign of hot.
On pictures no 4 & 8 the whole lump wires is very how. Not sure whether its just 1 or whole lump wires is hot.
Picture no.5, show wires going into the fuel tank area where the pointed wire is very hot and the rest is ok.
Dont know what wire on picture 6? Its located at the rear passenger side.
How do the STM Rewire Kit work on my current wires setup?
