So I went to go get flashed...
If you have had a PO300 fix flash put in your ECU then like Dustin said your options are now limited.....
A swapped or new ECU may be your only options....to swap you will need to find an 03 owner prepared to meet you at the dealer to change ECU's and correct the imobilizer key code, I know this sounds like a big hassle
New ECU $800.00 +
Sorry about your situation

I do not think he recognized the different checksums, so hopefully it is only a custom map and not the P0300 flash.
But why would the P0300 flash be such a bad thing?
If by chance it is reflashed with the P0300 then my only option is to get a new ECU or standalone?

Or a piggyback....but even then you will be hitting fuel cut on an 03 at around 22.5 psi
The problem with the PO300 reflash is there a quite a few different variants Mitsubishi have written to combat the problem, none that have worked by the way.
Most of the tuners only have compatible code for the original ECU...It is not worth the time or effort to have code for all the PO300 fixes for the few that have the factory flash from Mitsubishi
Someone told me recently that there could be as many as 10 revised flashes out there Mitsubishi have written.......

He says the car has been flashed before, and that was causing the issue.
My questions, can a dealer reflash the ECU back to stock?
How can I avoid the immobilizer issue in the future?

I'm in the same situation
, am getting a dealer to flash it back. Who ever your tuner is, how sure are they on that it's possible to for them to flash it after getting the ecu back from the dealer? they might throw in one of those po300 fixes in.

I can flash it no problem
Also - I will be in florida on May 31 - June 1 if you prefer a custom tune
I have invested a whole bunch of time on aquiring ALL the evo ecu maps so that my customers need not be disappointed with similar situations
BTW - I know the guy who tried to flash your car - he is in florida

Its like when windows updates from Windows 95 to Windows 98 - you want to run the latest and most up to date code that has all the bug fixes
