turbo turning red
yes the turbo is water cooled and oil cooled.. not to be a stickler, but boost doesnt turn the turbo red hot, exhaust gases do.. drive your car with your foot on the brake low rpms, higher gear low boost, say around 15 psi for 20 seconds, and you will see the turbo get hotter quiker than say 20 seconds at high boost, full throttle... this is a crude way of putting this without getting real technical, but you can get the jist.. try it youll see.. most cars that have been tuned correctly, will not cherry the the turbo as quick as the factory tune will.. a good tune is more effiecent at burning the fuel, thereby reducing cylinder temps, that is of course until you start pushing big boost.. in other words the motor is doing more work, instead of the turbo.. even simpler, 2 stock cars, one factory tuned, the other lets say flashed, the flashed car will run the same quarter mile time as the stock tuned car, but with less boost.. not to go over board, but say 5 psi less.... open the intake and exhaust, = more flow, better effiency, less heat, less boost, run 18 psi, and win against a stock car running 23 psi.. dont ask why i just explained all this.. put at least one person will have learned something new today..
