Jon Rippley TRE... where is he??

I just wanted to point out that it seems a little odd that so many transmissions are being built by Shep, when he seems to be spending all his time on his own car or racing. That is all.
Shepherd hasn't raced much this year, so I don't know what your talking about. I haven't heard on anyone having a problem with a transmission they sent to Shepherd to get rebuilt or people not being able to get a hold of him. Why are you trying to discredit Shepherd?

Being to busy to be able to race has everything to do with staying on top of transmission orders, answering the phone, and replying to e-mails. His credibilty comes from the three previously listed reasons and the fact that he builds a kick *** tranny that just so happens to be in some of the fastest 4g63 powered cars in the country.
Cheers.

Have you ever asked yourself how a guy that races ALL the time in several different circuits has the time to work on all of your transmission's...? Personally, IMHO I think Shep has someone else do his tranny's for him and that you are only buying his name. Then you wonder if that shop even has a Magnaflux, or does the proper tooling to your gears / shafts / etc...
Now take a look at Team Rip...
Jon hardly has time in his day to answer his phone or reply to e-mail because he is working on our tranny's and not racing. He also has a team of 4 very knowledgeable people that help him through the different stages of rebuilding tranny's and TC's. Jon and his team have worked solely on Evo / DSM transmissions for the past 8+ years.
I would rather trust my transmission in the hands of someone whom I know has a reputable company based on his hard work and not by his name. Quicker isn't always better when it comes to the performance in your parts.

BTW, I would have no problem with either John sending out some of their work as long as the quality is the same. Big companies do this all the time.

BTW, I have no dealings with either Shepherd or TRE, but have heard good things about the work both do. I just find it troubling that some internet expert trashes a respected shop and offers zero proof for their conjecture. Also, my reaction would be the same regardless of which John Lunch Boy attacked.

I do have a TRE tranny / TC. Otherwise I would have kept my mouth shut, unlike you. I didn't buy a Shep. tranny because of reasons I stated in my first post. I don't believe he actually builds them himself and that you're just buying his name. I could be wrong....
You are the one who has to reread my first post. I'm only stating that I don't believe he builds them himself and has someone else do them for him. That's it! Shame on me....
If I'm wrong I'll admit it but I haven't seen otherwise yet.

Grow up with the name calling. It's gets old and only makes you look stupid.
Ive heard nothing but good things about TRE and their work. Top notch.
Shepherd has been the same. I have heard nothing but good things! Its good to know the DSM/EVO world has 2 transmission vendors that are on top of the game, so if something does happen to my tranny, I know I can send it to one of these guys!

I gave him a call yesterday. After getting a new core center diff from me, he built a new 4 spider gear center diff for me with a torrington bearing. He had the core for all of 2 days before getting the whole tranny packed up and sent back to me. He does his own work. I should have my tranny on Monday.
All told, I probably talked to John 4 or 5 times on the phone in the past 2 weeks. He was always available. That is just good service.
If you don't have time to answer the phone to talk to your customers, maybe you need to hire someone to do it.
As far as I know, John races in the NDRA, that is it. All the other organizations have screwed with him with rule changes.

Then I heard him banging on the gears to get them loose from the cross shaft since they were jammed on there pretty tight.

I opted for TRE's tranny and T/C with LSD....the only problem I see in this thread is NOT workmanship...but customer relations!!! stick to whats relavent 'cause both gentlemens work is top notch.
I can vouch for the work Jon/Ming did on my car....high rpm shifting is so synchronized, I can set my watch on it...while the lsd is ripping me through corners like the Mellenium Falcon through the Death Star.
As far as customer service, maybe a secretary is needed to facilitate the high volume of calls? Customer contact seems to be a high point in a service related field like this. A couple of suggestions are: Quantum shipping notifications on all shipment; realistic dates of completion; and someone who can take care of the quick tech questions....heck, let the man work lol
In all, you wont be dissapointed with your tranny

I dont even know how to respond to your comments. I work a minumum of 12 hrs a day 6 days a week. When I work on my race car it is normally after 10 pm and work till 3 or 4 am. I have only been to 1 race this year due to work load.
Ask guys like Curt Brown that runs my trans in his 10 sec evo. He comes over and hangs out once in awhile. He or anyone else can stop by and see the $15K-$20K in parts in stock all the time..but of course that must just be a front. Anyways thanks for giving me a quick laugh this morning

I cant believe what I have created. Someone should just delete this thread. I wanted a simple answer, to find out what was happening with my transmission. I was truly worried about something that may have happened to it, thier shop or thier crew. I now realize that they were simply too busy to return my calls or E-mails. I have never heard of any credible source that has found fault in either company's workmanship and have heard great things about both. I do think TRE should possibly hire a secretary or someone to handle thier large volume of phone calls and E-mails. It also seems Shepherd should try to hire another proffecient tech to help him out as it seems the poor guys are working way too much.
Almost all the posts in this thread are attempting to knock one of the companies for no reason and without any merit. These are the type of posts that make these forums ridiculous. I am glad I figured out my question but I am extremely sad that both parties had to waste thier time reading and replying to this thread. And furthermore I am sad that people could actually spend thier own time to try to discredit either of them with no merit.

I did also want to add that Jon and I do talk on occasion and are not at "war". I do not believe either of us wants to get involved in the internet fighting bs.
Trina I do have 3 other techs, we are just out of room to add any more so we have tripled the size of our building and it will be finished in about a month.
