Jon Ripple TRE... where is he??

Hopefully someone (Or Jon) could tell me where he is. I sent him my transmission 2 weeks ago or so and havent heard a peep. I tried calling numerous times with no answer, his answering machine is full and he doesn't reply to Emails. So far my car has been sitting on stands for almost 2 months. I kinda would like it back some day

If anyone knows whats up please let me know! Thanks!

He's real busy with tons of work always and may not always get to the phone. Try dropping him an email if his email box isn't full and keep trying. It normally takes him 3-4 weeks to turn around a tranny.

He is swamped with transmissions BIG TIME!!!! I am still waiting on mine as well. You're best bet is to send him an email. I know it sucks to have your car in pieces, but he is doing the best he can. Don't sweat it. It will get there eventually

At least you aren't at 6 months like me! ;-)

(That's not because of my tranny tho or anything to do with TRE)

First I brought my tranny to Mitsu to see if they might look at it for free. Left it there with them for 4 days before they told me they wouldnt look at it. Then I talked to Shepherd about it and he told me it was probably a simple problem. I brought it to a pretty close guy (Rick Shindley) to have him rip it apart.. I heard he was cheap and did good work and I was quite sure it was a simple problem. He gave me the tranny back after replacing out a few bearings and said chances are it wasn't the tranny because it was shimmed correctly. So then I put the tranny in and drove it... same problem.

After that I pulled out the tranny again and the transfer case. Inspected it (Hopeing it was the front diff or ring and pinion gear)... everything in there looked great. So I figured I would put it all back in and see where the noise exactly was comming from and exactly when I could re-create it. It sounded definately from the transmission so I pulled it out AGAIN. This time I tore it apart myself to inspect it. Couldnt find anything wrong with it. I called Shepherd but didnt get any answer so I call Rick, he didnt provide much help so I called Jon. Jon told me it was probably a cracked gear which I need a magna flux to find out. I dont own a press or anything so I didnt want to rip the whole thing completely apart and bring to a local shop so I tried to find some sort of a box to get UPS to take it. They told me they would for around $200 one way. Jon told me it would only take a few days and I would have it back and he would do the whole shipping both ways for $175 with a box.

Now my tranny has been sitting there for 2 weeks and I can't get ahold of him through E-mail or phone calls. Obviously I should have just done it the right way and went with Shepherd from the beginning. I see why you said Shepherd was the way to go... this is what I get for trying to save a few bucks and pushing things too early.

Give me a call sometime

You should have sent your transmission to John Shepherd. John would have had your transmission back to quicker and his work is top notch.

Hello all,

This is Jon Ripple from TRE. We are busy over here however most of you will see your transmissions within a week. We have added some new equipment and turn around times have been greatly reduced.

I have finalized the drag race gearing for the EVO

This features a custom final drive ratio and a billet center differential cover and for those who are making really big HP & torque with a stroker engine we can even upgrade to larger bearings for added durability.

The gearing is as follows:

Engine RPM = 7500

1st = 50
2nd = 75
3rd = 100
4th = 140
5th = 195

This gearing has been fully tested and will certainly make the car .2ths quicker in the 1/4 just on the gearing alone and it will be ideal for those who plan on taking their EVO into the 9's.

Hi Jon, I really tried to keep your name off any forums but you would not return any of my E-mails or phone calls. Please let me know how everything is going with my transmission. I hope you would understand my frustration on how you could defend your name on a forum but not simply write an Email letting me know that are you incredibly busy and havent finished yet. Thank You.

I really was not trying to start a battle about who is better on here. Everyone has thier own opionions and thats fine. I just want to know what is happening with my transmission. Obviously I trusted Jon to fix my problem or I wouldn't have sent it to him.. Im not trying to give him a bad name or anything. I am just stating the problems I had and trying to resolve them. After I make so many phone calls and write enough E-mails I will continue on to another way to get ahold of him or to at least find out what has happened. I honestly thought something bad had happened to thier shop or something.

Relabled transmissions? Please. I'm friends with Shepherd and travel with him to most of the races he attends. I see first hand how difficult it is for him to race while trying to run and stay on top of his business. He skipped the NDRA Virgina race last month, simply because he is busy and there was not enough time for him to prepare the car. One person can only pull so many late nights/early mornings after a full day of work full well knowing that he has to be up to put in another full day of work. And to say "Quicker isn't always better"? He and his race car are a testament of his transmisison work. I'm sure Curt Brown, Sean Glazar, Daryl Hudson and a couple hundred of his other customers would agree.

No one is questioning what kind of work TRE can do either. John is a stand up guy(who will talk your ear off) and has been around Mitsu's since the birth of dirt and it is quite obvious he is busy right now. He has been known to be hard to get a hold of every now and then, but he always pulls through as far as I know. Some customers have a genuine concern of what is going on with there transmissions and that has been expressed lately.

Its unbelievable the things people will say about another company for absolutely no reason. EVOlunchbox - What reasoning do you have to say anything about Shepherd? Have you seen his work or talked to any of the people using his trannies "...Curt Brown, Sean Glazar, Daryl Hudson and a couple hundred of his other customers..." like Shearer posted? I know a few of his customers and they had nothing but excellent comments about him and his services. I personally have never used either of them until now. They are both incredibly busy people and both have great names in the transmission field. I was just incredibly concerned on my transmission. I did not want to write anything on this forum about my experience but I could not find any information out at all.. whether it be he is real busy or his shop burned down... I had no idea. I would still like to know something a little more specific about my transmission but at least I now know that he is here and he is working.

TRINABABE - First off, Yes I do know people with Shep transmissions and most have ended up at TRE with the same problems. Have I seen his work? Yes. Have I talked to other people using his trannies? Yes, but not with good comments. So there are a few names that have good transmissions....you could put Curt Brown in a Yugo and he would still run a 10 sec. quarter.

Second of all, My point was not to knock Shep. I have a great respect for him on his accomplishments on his own car. I understand your concerns for your transmission and not being able to get a hold of Jon. He is a busy man as stated above.

You should update your website as scattershields are now required for car running 11.49 or quicker and not the 12.99 as stated on your site. They change that rule in January 1, 2005. Download the NHRA rule book and see for yourself.
