What clutch???
Okay currently I'm making around 300awhp, but with mods that are going on the car I'm going to be making close to 380-390 when tuned. My current clutch is the ACT 2600. I've noticed that when I use launch control on my UTEC it holds at 6K and when the clutch is released it holds at 6K for about half a second then starts climbing.. afterwards I get the burnt clutch smell. I've come to the realization that the clutch is spinning inside. It isn't slipping b/c when I'm rolling and I punch it it grips perfectly. I don't know how the clutch is going to handle the huge increase in HP though so I'm preparing for the worst.. should I go with a double plated clutch or triple and be done with it? What brand is the best to go with? Excedy?
my suggestion is a twin plate clutch by exedy. that is what i have in my car and it drives like the stock one but holds so much better. triple plates have their advantages and disadvantages. the advantages are that it holds as much power you can throw at it, and it is very hard to break it. disadvantages are that it is called a driveline killer, you will break something in the driveline before you mess that clutch up, and it is no really a streetable setup. it is either engaged or disengaged.

The exedy is a great unit, I use the sister clutch, the cusco carbon. Same dang thing almost. The carbon is great for every day use, after you warm it up it actually grips harder....very strange. Some times I get it hot enough it actually doesn't disengage as well, either. In fact, this is so often the case, I had to set the pedal much tighter with much less free play than if a stock or single plate clutch were used just to get it to disengage fully. Works extremely well and can hold a 6k clutch dump on dry, warm, sticky tires.
You shouldn't be having slipping issues at the power level you are at. The ACT street clutch should hold a lot more than you are making. If you have the retrictor still in the hydraulics, I would consider taking it out so you get less clutch slippage. But be warned that it puts engagement under your control which may or may not be a good thing.

If you let your wife your someone else test drive your car you should leave the clutch restrictor pill in, especially if you get stronger clutch.
And I also vote for Exedy Twin. Best daily driver clutch that can hold a lot of power!

question for you, Dirk. I've got an ACT 2600 in my 92 GSX and I love it. Its the first aftermarket clutch I put in the car and over the last 60,000+ miles and unnumerable launches and multiple track days I've yet to have a single problem or complaint. What would be the equivalent for the evo? My concerns here are the increased weight of the car (my gsx has been lightened to about 2700 lbs) and goal of 400 whp. Clutch pedal effort and noise are not a concern. Looking for your recommendation as I've had great experience with your products in the past. Excellent performance at a bargain price.

Since the EVO clutch has considerably more surface area, there is more material to dissapate the heat as well. This is what you need for a heavier car since it takes more slippage to get the added weight in motion.
The pedal effort is not bad because the EVO uses a pull type system which has less flex. Mitsu can and does build more mechanical advantage into the system so the pedal effort can be reasonable.

Hey Dirk I have a question for you... Turbotrix sells the street disc only for your ACT street clutch for $160.. heres the link: http://turbotrix.com/isthebest/custo...cat=207&page=1
now my question is.. is this the same street disc that can hold up to 497ft/lbs of torque and easily hold 450+hp as stated in this description: http://www.lancershop.com/customer/p...7&cat=6&page=1 ?
I'm thinking what I got was the ACT Street Disc Clutch kit, but perhaps my disc is going bad for some reason and was wondering if I can simply replace the disc? I want to make sure it is the really strong disc so it can handle all the power

I know it's a pain to have the car down for any length of time, but I would rather know what's wrong than just throw parts at it until it gets fixed. So, do you have the restrictor still installed?
