Revolvers or HKS 272

Need some help here...Currently I have the revolver cams with spings and retainers but when dynoed it actually didn't add any power but 2-4. I was told to get the HKS but I want to make sure before I come out of pocket. My current mods are intake, bov, dp, cat-back exhaust, xflash and of course the revolvers...
So the actual question is should I dump the revolvers and get the HKS of should I look more into the revolvers and try to retune it???

revolver cams and a stock turbo are not generally a good idea. Some might say "its all about the tune" but whatever, keep the springs but ditch the cams unless your going to be upping the boost seriously in the near future. With the stock turbo go with the 272s or 280s...baish

Get the HKS's, I have the 272's and they idle like a charm, and I think they gave me at least 10-15 whp easy.

Same, I've been told by a few vendors to avoid revolver cams. Go with GSC cams over the HKS (unless u feel the need for 280s) because they are cheaper a cheaper alternative, yet they are just as good if not better!

no, get the HKS's, it's not like they cost an arm and a leg and they are proven, I think after the crummy ones you got you could use the peace of mind.

They're not 'crummy'. I haven't heard a single bad thing about the GSC cams, and they make good power. They have the exact same specs as the HKS I believe, but they are less expensive. Go with GSC

I have had HKS 264 cams with the stock turbo and I loved them now I have 272 cams with a larger turbo and same thing I love them no problems I am very happy. HKS 280s are next.It has been proven the HKS are best bang for the buck in cams for the Evo!

Hi,

I got the HKS 272s in my 05. I made 284whp and 277tq on a mustang dyno (91 CA octane). The idle isn't too bad and the car had never stall on me. I would recommend these cams to all of my customers.

Thanks,
Tom

"Im Sorry I take that back REVOLVER CAMS arn't CRAP they are just plain GARBAGE.

If you have Stock Turbo set up

I recently purchased a set of cams through a local supplier and was told many great things about these cams. Well guess what? everthing said about these cams are completely false and untrue. Though I plan on upgrading the turbo in the near future these cams run like crap on the stock Turbo.

Here are my list of complaints

#1. These cams are NOISY, dont get me wrong I dont give a $hit how loud the car is but when your valvetrain is so noisy the ECU thinks its KNOCK then you got yourself a problem. Not only with tunning but with overall performance. Cams are noisy because of the way they are designed due to the lift.

#2. These cams made less HP on a tuned map than stock cams make on a base map. EVO8

#3. These cams have no idle whatsoever.

#4. Car dies at idle sometimes and REVOLVER KNOWS THIS thats the reason for the odd 6-2 settings on the cam gears

#5. Car base line run was 252.3WHP with just cat back exhaust and intake.
Now We have DownPipe.Test pipe.exhaust.intake.cams.fuel pump.cam gears. and only 238 WHP tuned and absolutely no IDLE whats so ever.

#6. You must purchase cam gears just to get an OK idle and even then the car still dies and doesnt idle worth a $hit.

#7. Loss of Tourqe all throughout the powerband. Car feels like a honda now (B16)

#8. The Dyno Graph of the REVOLVER CAMS on this forum does not tell the whole truth about these cams and I want everyone to know about my experience with these cams before purchase is made.

The Dyno plot from the actual owners (revolver) EVO doesnt say anything about how much boost he was running. He is pushing 30 pounds of boost to make 300 pound feet torque but he was also on race gas (100 oct).

By the way it is all about peak numbers, Dont tell me different.

#9. I am sorry I purchased these cams there is nothing possitive to say about these cams and this purchase. I spent alot of money just to loose HP." -taken from DVC2004

just gotta do a little reading man, if you went one page over you would have found this one
