Question .272 HKS Cams + Dynoflash questions

Hey all,

Would .272 HKS Cams on stock cam gears + Dynoflash ECU Tune be suitable on the stock turbo? Should I get .264 instead??? Should I get cam gears?

I don't know what to do here. I don't want to put the cams in and Al not be able to tune it correctly without all the necessary parts & etc.

And after reading a bit, I have found that people use cam gears set to -4/-1 for best overall performance... I just want to have everything set before I schedule an appointment with Al,

Any input is much appreciated.

Well, from reading the other 100 threads on this topic, I can tell you that YES OF COURSE YOU CAN RUN 272 CAMS ON STOCK CAM GEARS WITH A DYNOFLASH.

You can do 264, 272, 280, 269, whatever the hell you want. They have nothing to do with the stock turbo. There's like 300 people on here with HKS 272s on the stock turbo, some with and some without aftermarket cam gears. Do whichever combination you want. The details of these combinations can be found through easy searches.

I wasn't able to find if the .272 cam combo'd w/ Dynoflash without camgears would work without an issue.

I searched for the information, and couldn't find it. No need to be rude. If you'd like to find a post on the same topic and post the link; I'll admit stupidity.

Currently 272/272 with stock camgears holds the record for most (Dynoflashed) power on stock turbo.

That is exactly what I am running and it is very possible. Don't listen to half the garbage you will find out there about idle, driveability etc. After driving it for a while now I wouldn't change a thing the idle is not anywhere near as bad as everyone says. To be honest with you even on the hottest or coldest day it is very consistent. Oh and the car pulls much harder up top! Al's flash did help it though but even before the flash it wasn't too bad.

BUMP;

Anyone know where to find a Cam install guide?

I'd like to attempt this myself without spending a lot of $$

Couldn't find one on the How-To Section List...

Save the money you'd waste on cam gears and buy something more worthwhile... cam gears don't make more power, it just shifts it.

Despite arguements for 264 owners who swear that 264's make more torque than 272's on the stock turbo... there's been many many dyno tests proven than 272's make more power and torque throughout the whole powerband than 264's on every turbo application for the evo...

I'd suggest 272's w/ stock cam gears. =]

Cam gears are a tuning tool. They can be used to improve one aspect or another above and beyond what's possible with the factory timing.

If you want absolute best peak power, you need cam gears.

If you want absolute best midrange torque, you need cam gears.

If you want a butter smooth idle with big cams, you need cam gears.

If you want a very decent all-around power setting and aren't concerned about any of the above, the factory gears are fine.
