MAF sensor connected ok? Vacuum connected from MBC to Turbo ok? Sounds very odd.

It doesn't have to be running to pull a code. Just roll the key to the start position and let the code reader scan. Have you done a boost leak test? Visual inspection only gets you so far. I'd be willing to bet something isn't right with the pump. Check the seal on the top of the pump and make sure it's seated properly. I had a customer who's 1G would drive under vac. then fall on its face under boost do to this.

yea everything is connected. now at a very lopey idle if i give it a little gas and let off it starts idling at 2200 rpm. i also now notice what seems to be an odd tick or rattle that comes and goes. since the idle got better other than the rattle i tried to drive it, but as soon as i give it throttle under a load it cuts out.

also what i previously asked. could this be symptoms of timing being off on balance shaft or the bottom sprocket on timing belt?

The balance shaft would cause lots of extra vibration but the car will still run fine. (the engine will shake a ton!) I'm 99.9% sure it has nothing to do with the bottom sprocket. Timing being off however, could cause symtoms like this. You can check it easily without pulling off all the covers. (only have to remove the top at the cam gears)

Sorry I misread the part about the sprocket, but yes it does sound possible that the timing could be off. I'd check it first, if it's right, I'd go back and check the pump.

+1 many people take the balance shafts off all together when they redo the motor.

sounds like a problem with the install of your new fuel pump.

CHECK THE CAM TIMING, make sure MAF is plugged in. I highly doubt a fuel pump would go bad that fast but it may have been installed improperly
