TC "o" ring?

Reading another thread, what exactly is the TC O ring? Is it the lubed "ring" above the shaft? What's the story with this?

It is a big O ring that wraps around the part of the TC that slides in to the tranny. My stock one was mangled and was leaking after a clutch swap. This time I found a replacement at an auto store and hoped it would fix it and it is still leaking. My factory replacement should be in today, so hopefully it will fix the leak.

Yeah. Order a new one before taking it apart. It is only like $1.50 and that way you can just put a new one on while you have it apart. I didn't lube mine the first time and it must have pinched. This time i used a thicker smaller diameter o ring and lubed it up wll and it still leaked. At least I only have to pull a few things to replace it.

Props to ya cuz some of you make it sound like it's as easy as a oil change.

mine was cracked, due to not being lubed properly. and I leaked fluid, but got it to the shop before it went kaboom. its easy to pinch this "ring" and cause problems down the road. the Mitshu dealer told me this is usually why people have TC probs AFTER a clutch change! Good luck!

Mine was working great for a few months and then after a few hard launches she started leaking. Anybody else have this problem?

Yes.

It isn't too bad to replace. Just pul the downpipe and the pasenger side axle and it should be able to come out after removing the 6 bolts holding the TC on. Then swing it to the side and replace the ring. Just lube it before putting it back in.

What I have seen most is the small o-ring missing or fallen off. The big one I have never seen broken.

When I installed my quaife front LSD, I wondered what the hell that small o-ring was for. There's another o-ring of the same size downstream on the t-case cover. There's no passage on the cover, so maybe there's an oil passage on the housing somewhere. I forgot to look for one when I had mine apart.
