Brilliant, the old "yer a newbie" attack...very original.

You should know by now that info "evolves" as time and experience pass...If we are to quit talking about things that have been talked about before, because some panties would get bunched up, we would have very little to talk about.

I have learned about not only childish human behavior, in this thread, but also more about cams...so this thread is constructive and informative.

Well as far as pros and cons, i dont even see any cons except that u void your warranty! Pros would be increased mid-range and high-end torque, and better overall acceleration. I would definitely recommend a TB exhaust (because of the increase in exhaust gases), fuel pump, and ARP headstuds (cheap insurance), manual bost controller (in cause u wanna turn up the boost). Any type of engine mod will help add HP because there are many restrictions from the factory, and a forced induction engine will attain more HP than a N/A car. Also, the EVO definitely responds to basic bolt-on parts.

As for cam gears, i definitely recommend them in u get any combination of cams, the exception being 264/264. Cam gears will help u smooth out ur idle that gets a little messed up by the higher duration cams and also allows u to correctly set a good strong powerband that will take advantage of the cams. Hope this helps!
I met a guy at the track who said he was pulling hp out of stock cams and HKS cam gears...Does this sound logical to you?

Thanks buddy...your reply helps me, so this thread has been constructive.

I do not recommend cam gears. The money you pay for them can be put into something that'll actually make power. Cam gears shift your powerband, not increase power. I'm sure cam gears can help reduce the lope in your idle from more aggressive camshafts, but what's the point? But then again, the arguement of the importance of cam gears is never-ending...

Actually i know it's logical becuase Sport Compact Car did a tech article where they put AEM cam gears on an EVO with stock cams and gained like 10-15 HP. But they also tuned it using a XEDE, so they tuned accordingly in order to take advantage of the new timing.

Like i said before, i would definitely recommend cam gears if u have anything like a 272/264, 264/272, or 272/272.....the exception being the 264/264 setup as it idle pretty smoothly. But if u want a nice idle, cam gears will help. And cam gears will actually gain u more HP because your changing ur timing......ask anyone on here and they'll tell u to get the most out of cams, get cam gears. They're not even that expensive to begin with....i got my fidanzas for $185.
