maybe this is still my problem.. my car makes no power.. 200hp

The car looked like this after being tune.. took apart the intake track, put the stock bov back in switched the hallman mbc out for an avc-r.. then took it back two weeks later and it was crazy lean and messed up.. still cant find the problem.

I posted about this in this very same thread. When you get to higher RPM, the scoop thing gets sucked up against the bottom of the hood choking off the turbo. All the air that is built up in the intercooler piping goes through the engine, but it can't get any more due to the turbo being choked off. That's also why if you don't let off the gas, it just stays that way.

I'm interested to see what happens with Warrtalon -- I'm hoping that the aftermarket BOV fixes his problem.

The visual of him using a bicycle pump is priceless though

I had no problems so long as I stuck with that pea shooter Gt25R turbo but when i switched to the big boy turbo that is when it craked like a paper bag

I think i might give that IC tester a try, altough its going to be annoying to have to take my intake off.

Well, it's a pretty embarassing story, but here ya go...

I was convinced that it was the stock BOV, so a friend with an MR came over to let me use his HKS SSQV. I removed both BOVs, then installed his SSQV onto my car, and clamped everything down nicely. While I was doing this, my friend asked why I didn't use the stock, plastic fasteners to hold down the snorkel. My response was that they had broken off when I first removed it while installing the MBC, and that I didn't bother getting new ones, since I had to take the snorkel off a lot. He chuckled, then showed me how the stock fasteners actually work, and my eyes bugged out. How utterly simple, yet effective...too bad I broke mine off originally. Well, just for the hell of it, he handed his to me, and I fastened my snorkel down not really thinking about the previous posts mentioning the possibility that the snorkel was sucking up against the hood.

So, we went out and tested with the SSQV...1.3 bar in 3rd...held to redline no problem. Ok, this is already better than before. Crank the boost some...1.45bar in 3rd tapering to ~1.4bar and holding to redline. Wow, this is like a dream come true. It must be the BOV, right? So, we come back and exchange BOVs while 99% certain that my MR DV will fix the problem, then call it a day. I then log back on to EvoM and see that there is another comment referencing the snorkel-to-hood suction factor, so I decide to go fasten down the snorkel with some autozone fasteners and try it out. I was expecting the "leak" to occur like normal, since I was still set at 1.45bar, but NOOOOOOOOOOO. The boost held beautifully, and the "leak" was gone!! In that instant, I realized that I had wasted an entire week of troubleshooting, re-installing, sweating, bleeding, swearing, buying infinite crap at autozone/lowe's/home depot, begging for help on multiple msg boards, etc etc, when all I had to do was use some $.50 fasteners!!!

So, if anyone ever complains of a huge boost "leak" with a loud whistle while losing all of their boost when using the stock intake...let's all yell it together: FASTEN YOUR SNORKEL DOWN!

Thanks for all the help, guys...

A little side note...
For those that see cracks right along the weld like this on ANY part, it pretty much means the part couldnt have been welded any worse. A decent weld should be stronger than the material around it...meaning if a break were to occur, you should see a crack on either side of the weld....usually about 1/2" away on small parts like this.

Good find on the snorkel, also. Its usually something simple...

I don't have it yet...still waiting on gruppe-s to get them off back-order. I paid for it 2.5 weeks ago, but it wasn't supposed to be in stock until this week, so hopefully I'll get it later this week or next. For now, the stock BOV is doing just fine.

If that snorkel thing keeps getting sucked up into the hood, couldn't you just remove it to fix the problem too?

Warrtalon,
What fasteners did you get from Autozone? I broke mine, as well and can't find any that fit. Do you have a part # or pic?

Does the fastener thing only really bother a stock intake box? I have a Injen Filter and have the snorkel sitting there without fasteners but have not had any issues.
