Twin Turbo G35 giving the EVO props

I got this from my350Z.com-

I have a friend that has a modified Evo, at around 300whp he ran a 12.5 at the track, and now he's making 389whp and 420lbs of torque. We met up and talked, then decided to do some highway runs (on a closed road, ok I added this one).

This was my first race since having the APS kit installed, the first run we go to about 120 and he immediately put about two cars on me before my turbos started spooling and I'm like wtf? Once they spool up he stops pulling but I'm not gaining either.. we shut down

Second run is similar, he bolts ahead immediately but I started in second.. I'm still dissapointed with the race.. I thought I'd have a good chance against most streetable cars.. at least against an Evo on the interstate!

Third run I do the honking and his car is so loud I can't hear my own horn, he's running no exhaust after the downpipe right now. Again he bolts ahead and but doesn't pull much further.

At this point I accept the beating but still confused. He has AWD and less HP than me (I'm putting down 406whp and 389lbs of torque) Maybe the torque does make that much of a difference. We pull over again and after some discussion he admits he was brake boosting, before we would go he was already at 20psi plus injecting 100% methanol, so that explained why he was putting 2 or 3 cars on me immediately.

To make me feel better he calls up one of his friends with a stock SRT-4 lol. First me and the SRT go at it and it was no contest, 2-3 cars as soon as I hit full boost and pulling hard. We run again with the same results then my friend with the Evo decides to run again, this time no brake boosting. Unfortunately I lost that race but it was much different than before. When we dropped he would take off but I'd only fall back to his front door then it seemed like I started gaining but we would already be at 120mph and we agreed not to go any higher.

Yeah I'm thinking stock turbo too, and I also have a hunch I know which member it is on this website. The one that had an encounter with a Twin Turbo Supra and posted the video on evom.net.

hi. ^.^

That Supra encounter was single turbo... and the thread was closed because the moderator said that I staged the race... wonder if he thinks this race is staged too... ::shrug::

btw, that G35TT is the damned nicest, cleanest, most impressive G35 I've ever seen. Under the hood, most people would just see a cold-air intake on a stock motor. Very clean TT job. Very quick too!

Basically you give the car gas and brake to maintain your speed.. all while building boost.

What is brake boosting? While from a roll, get a set mph you want to stay at. Then slowly apply the brakes with your left foot while you slowly apply more gas with the right foot. Eventually, you'll have your left foot almost all the way down as well as your right while maintaining your target mph. Applying the brakes while applying gas applies load to the engine. The load then allows the turbo to spool with the brakes ensuring the vehicle does not accelerate past the target mph. Using this technique, you can have partial to almost full boost from a roll.

I boost 28psi on the streets... it takes some good time to spool that much boost. With brake boosting, I spool 20psi before the 3rd honk. I just took apart my BOV and adjusted it with some lock washers today. Before, it wouldn't go past 20psi due to the BOV beginning to flutter. Now I can brake boost upto about 22psi~24psi.

Thanks man, i usually just down to 3rd and punch it at the 3rd honk. I'm going to try this out sometime this weekend.
