So I hit a pothole last night
Last night I nailed a real nasty pothole, pulled over to the side of the road to check if there was any damage. I get to the front of the car and there is dirt/sand sitting on the top part of the lower lip and jammed into the 2 lower bars in the IC. Now this morning when I started the car there was a horrible clunking noise from the front left side. I can hear it also when going over small bumps. It sounds like the strut is loose but eveything under there looks like it wasn't touched, theres no scratch marks on the lower control arm or the strut assembly itself.
My only guess is that the strut blew the seals, since looking that far up in the tower with the wheel still on is near impossible. The car still handles fine, steering isn't sloppy. Any guesses from anyone? The car is lowered with tein S-tech's and no other suspension mods.
EDIT: I just noticed this was in engine/trans, mods can you move please

Take pictures IMMEDIATELY of the pothole AND the car - get it on a lift with an estimate NOW.
Of course, get it fixed because you're going to anyway. But send a copy of the bill with an official-sounding letter to the city/county/whoever that maintains that lovely stretch of roadway.
I hear you can get paid if you play your cards well... good luck!

Just did that, suspension is still tight as a virgin. I started the car again, it seems to be more pronounced while the engine is cold, no noise this time but the lifter tick that I thought I was finally rid of came back. I can't win lately.

right in front of Senor Luna's on Calhoun south of Greenfield. Right where the RR tracks are, it's just a real bad road right there. I was going about 10mph when i hit it and usually take the same line since it's the way I take to work everyday and i live 2 min from there. I didn't see it till the very last second.

Haha, not in this city, too many tight *** city officials. They barly plow the snow on my road during the winter as it is, thank god for 4WD. Thinking of getting coilovers anyway.

just have to get your flashlight out and have someone start the engine, and you try to inspect where the noise is coming from.
strut's not going to make that noise when just sitting still.
i really think it's one of the inner bracket that's loose or even your down pipe.
i would take the wheel out and check the suspension components as well.
hopefully you didn't crack the bottom of your intercooler.

Noise is clearly coming from the tranny area, if not the tranny itself. I still have the stock clutch and I know it's on it's way out, unless the TOB finally took a dump, the TOB has been humming during downsfits for the last few months.
Wheel is coming off as we speak.

Figured it out. The IC must have bottomed out and the brackets bent slightly and the IC was resting on the AC condenser, causing a rattling sound at idle (I have cams), and over bumps. I pulled on the lower part of the IC and the bottom moved towards the front of the car just a little. I got under the car tonight to inspect the welds (thats most of what i do for a job) and everything looks A-OK. Still holds boost and no more noise, I think I got a little lucky for once.
