Simple question on catch cans
Simple question on catch cans
i have an authority catch can. I did a pressure check for leaks yesterday and noticed i was leaking a lot of air from the drain nipple of my catch can. I never had a cap on this nipple. Lancershop never sent me anything.
My question is....... could this leak in the catch can cause boost leak?
FYI, i was also leaking a little air from the smaller nipple on my injen intake. could this be causing boost leak?

hahaha.. boost leak.. look at your i/c pipes do they connect to the valve cover.. no.. if your nipple is leaking youll get a wet shirt, opps sorry it will leak oil.. put some pipe tape on the nipple so it doesnt leak oil on your car..
i did a pressure check by taking off the cone filter and testing from there. i know most do checks from the turbo inlet.
My catch can has three nipples. one that goes to the valve cover area, one that goes to the intake piping, and the third is the drain nipple. This nipple is the one that is leaking air and when doing a pressure check.

It is leaking air because you are testing for boost leaks in areas where boost is not made. By pressurizing the air at the filter you are forcing a column of air to run from your MAF pipe right into the fitting that runs to your catch can. This is the opposite of the way it happens in real life. In real life there would be suction at this juncture. In short. No your boost can cannot cause a boost leak.
