Drivetrain noise....twin disk related?
Okay....back in January I had my Exedy twin disk installed. Great clutch, but it seems like after the install the drivetrain has got ALOT louder. Even more loud in the past two weeks.
The drives fine, but I can be doing 60 mph and just let out of the gas and I get this crazy howling noise. It sounds like it is literally coming from everywhere under the car. It sounds like its coming from the front, but if I turn my head towards the back it sounds like its coming from back there. I've even had a couple people tell me its coming from the rear.
I took my service manager for a ride to let him hear it and he agreed that it didn't sound normal. I told him I was gonna change the rear diff oil and he told me if it didn't fix it to set up an appointment.
Well today a buddy and I decide to replace my rear diff oil hoping it would quiet it down and be the remedy. Wasn't such luck.
My wife never notices anything about my car, but I realized that the noise has gotten louder because she made a comment Sat. night about it. I just can't figure it out what it could be. Anybody else with or without a Exedy twin disk have anything problems remotely close to this?

yay, transfer case noise!
twin disc is usually noisy. but howling noise is your transfer case.
twin disc makes the clunky, metallic noise.
if you launch it more and more, it'll get louder and louder.

I have the HKS twin disk and if this is what all of them sound like then I can't imagine buying another twin disk.
I too get the chattering and yes it has increased over the last couple of months but its so annoying and loud now that I really can't tell if its howling or chattering or both.
I can't seem to get a straight answer to this but what is the best clutch in terms of longevity and silence, excluding the stock (for you smart asses), if price was not an issue.

You will get LOTS of decel noise with the Exedy Twin. Mine is most noticeable from 3500 rpm down to around 2900. You should also check to see if the downpipe may be hitting the lower tie bars under decel. That makes a very similar noise.

I just changed out my HKS downpipe for the Helix about a month ago. It is rattling a bit, but this is not the noise I'm talking about. I know the difference between the rattle of the downpipe and the chatter of the clutch. It's the howling that has me concerned. It just seems like it's has got louder over that past few months and its annoying. I can take the car out of gear with the pedal in or out and it still makes the noise. I'm starting to think it has nothing to do with the clutch anymore.
My car is going to the dealer come Monday.

Exedy twin here and it is def loud on decel, but disengage the clutch and all is silent. also you can hear a rattle at idle with my car in neutral and the clutch engaged, but push the clutch in and the noise goes away. Might want to try that out as well...

I suspect that the o-rings that seal between the t-case and transmission have a slow leak caused by some inadvertant mishap during the clutch install. If it is leaking, it has resulted in a substantial loss of gear oil and premature failure of the ring and pinion or spider gears.
