I have an '03 with 32k and have recently noticed the same noise, but only in 5th gear when I let off the throttle. I will have Mitsu look at it when I take the car in for some warranty work and post the results.

I have a 03 with 19k that makes the same noise. Im pretty sure it is the TOB. Almost everyone I talk to says some noise from the TOB in neutral with the clutch pedal out is no big deal.

Its the TO bearing. If you notice, it goes away with the clutch in.

It's just clutch chatter, shouldn't be a big deal. Seems most Evo's have it as does mine. Every single friend of mine with a stock clutch has clutch chatter. I've had clutch chatter now since ohhhhh, well for the last year and a half. I wouldn't stress out over it.

I mentioned this same problem to a friend of mine with an eclipse. It is definitely TOB, he said he took his to mitsu to see about having it changed under warranty, and they wont change it b/c its just noise. He said they updated the bearing on the 03+ eclipse.

mine is an 03 with 25k on it. same noise...

just leave the clutch in all the time, or turn up the radio.

dont worry its just clutch noise, wait till you put an aftermarket one in, especially an un-sprung disk

i just posted another thread about this b/c I got worried too... I'm sure this sound just started recently. Gets louder w/ A/C, goes away w/ clutch in, now try this, go under your hood and blip the throttle, it is much louder after you do. Here's the video I took of it, tell me what yall think. Someone on my thread said that everyone told his friend it was the TOB, but it turned out to be a couple loose bolts on the flywheel (which has me worried)

its 4MB, might wanna save as
also might wanna save as if it doesn't work for you by clicking it...

Much more likely to be TOB noise than loose flywheel. I have talked to a lot of experts about this and my conclusion is that it is nothing to worry about.
