burning oil

so i'ved searched and read many threads about oil consumptions...

i travel far everyday, and drive hard. cruised on long trips 600 miles. so is it because of how i drive everyday is the result of burning oil?

before my 2nd oil change, it had low oil readings...

monday i am due for my 3rd oil change - 10k service... i checked the oil today and it reads very low.

few people recommends an oil catch can... any other ways to prevent large loss of oil? should i use different kind of oil or stick with mobil 1?

An oil catch can will probably be the best solution. If you're losing oil then the type of oil you are using won't make a differance, you'll just lose it.

I checked mine yesterday and with 3500 miles on it, I was down about a quart. My dealership wont allow me to use the free maintence untill around 4500 miles. I figure i'm due for my first oil change, I might have to place a call to complain.

Did you check on a flat service?

Is your drain plug leaking?

Turbo oil lines leaking?

SURE there is Synthetic oil in there?

I dont burn oil @ all between oil changes.

A catch can? WTF? A catch can is going to do exactly that... catch it! Not put it back into the motor!

Are you blowing smoke? Leaking? Any power loss?

My car is also brand new and I think I'm consuming oil as well. I do have a catch can and that's where some of it may end up, but not a 1/2 quart. I will check for a leaking drain plug, but as far as I know I'm not blowing smoke nor leaking anywhere. And I did the conservative break in for about 1,000 miles at least. I don't think I felt boost until about 1,200 miles. So you can throw the break in theory out the window. From what I've been told, unless you burn more than 1 quart every 1,000 miles it's considered normal. One other thing I was thinking is that I dont think there's a whole lot of "space" between the two marks on the dipstick. I think between the two it may only be about 1/2 quart.
