3071 newB questions gallore!!

hey everyone...
i've got a gray stage 1 evo...

looking to upgrade this turbo already...

3071 seems best to me... 400awhp is my goal on pump gas... it seems to offer somewhat minimal lag in comparison to other turbos in its class...

now for the newB question...
what exactly is involved with this?
i've heard that 3071 can bolt up w/ a modified o2 housing... is this true?
what else would i really need to have this "safely" running?

everyone with larger turbos have moved on to beefy EMS systems which i'm not familiar with... i'm starting to get pretty good w/ the safcII and don't want to move away from it just yet... can the safc tame the 3071?

can anyone lend me any insight? point me in the right direction? share personal experiences w/ this turbo?

When I first decided on a turbo upgrade I wanted something bolt-on, no fuss, easy to revert back to stock turbo if I choose, etc, etc...

Additionally, I wanted "near stock" spool, and no power drop off.

With those requirements, I ended up choosing the ATP 3071R (.63 housing). Install went smooth, everything fit well, and after all was said and done power increase was noticably higher.

I ended up making 300AWHP @ 19PSI on a very aggressive Mustang Dyno, (named "the humbler" for it's low readings) AWD cars before me were cracking low 12's around the 275HP mark.

I never made it to the track, but it was a beast on the street.

I have since removed that turbo kit and gone to the AMS 3076. Gains don't feel that enormous (haven't dyno'd yet) but I have to imagine I picked up an extra 20-30 horse with their manifold, turbo and a bit more boost.

Bottom line, a 3071 (ATPs or whoevers) is an awesome turbo and you won't be disappointed.

Woah man... that's a lot of bumps for 10 minutes.

Anyhow, I upgraded because AMS talked me into it and helped me out on the install... my main concer for going with the ATP from the get go was easy of install.

Like I said, the gains were marginal...

So do you think you can hit 400whp with the Dr. Gray stage 1 set up???
Would you do it again? Buy a 3071R or just go 3076r? Keeping in mind 400 is the mark....
Glad you like the BUMPS.....Ultraflip was bored.....hahahaha

the difference between the 71 and 76 will be all in the boost, if you're gonna run the same amount of boost or close to the same amount yer gonna see no difference in the turbos cuz they're the same turbo with different wheels. one being able to flow much more.

there are atp straight up bolt on kits for all the garrett gt series turbos. so that gives you one option for the no fuss bolt on thing.

if you want to put a normal garrett 3071r on you have to have a t3 flanged manifold (anyone that makes a t3 mani for the evo, fullrace, rnr, shearer, etc ad nauseum) or an adapter collar (vishnu). you will also need coolant and oil lines, this is where a kit becomes convenient and i htink a kit can be put together from agp turbo or any of the other places that would love to take your money.

going to to any turbo will not necessitate aem ems but ems is better for cars running a garrett series turbo as the fuel curves and such will be completely different from stock and a piggyback would be a bad thing. you can get anything safely running, efficiently and optimal is where things get expensive.

there is always the white rabit turbo which i'm sure you've heard plenty about now. the stock turbo is hard to beat.
