Guys,
Need some serious help here!

Yesterday, just as I came home my Evo engine dies. Turns out the radiator fan shredded to pieces and broke into the radiator thus drained all fluids. My commute on highway was one hour back and during it I did not notice any smell, smoke or noise nor did I pay attention to factory temp gauge. Mind you I saw no smoke what so ever. I did smell some burnt odor from the engine. Engine oil is full and no coolant in it.

So, I ordered a new aftermarket radiator and plan to replace the stock fan assembly. But, now even after refilling the leaking radiator with water the engine would crank but would NOT start or turn over!!!

Is this serious? What could be causing this? This I toast the engine??? Any thing else I can check? HELP!!!!

 

ouch, sorry to hear it man. Do you know how hot the engine got? What do you mean it will crank but not turn? Will the engine crank but not start?

 

it won't turn over, just cranks... what can it be?

 

Do you have any idea how hot it got? Maybe you fried a sensor.

 

nah, I only notice the prob after getting home. Did'nt see the temp guage nor did I see any smoke. Hoping it's not a major problem!!!

 

try resetting ecu, check for blown fuses...
...may be a safety thing ...have you topped off fluids and replaced fan yet ?

 

Plugs are shot for sure, replace them.

I just placed the order for the radiator and a fan. I'll check for blown fuses, replace plugs and reset ecu for sure!!!

 

...shame you can't go to the dealer to warranty it, or can you?

 

Yeah plugs are most likely toast... Need compression test, check the head.. To make sure you didn't fry the engine.. Could possibly burned the motor up.. Hopefully not of course... Good luck bro...

 

man that sucks. i dont know if it realy helps but i have herd of this sort of thing hapening in motorcycles. its called a spot siez and its usualy prety bad. what hapens is your cylinder gets so hot that the rings and cylinder wall are just about at melt down, then you shut the motor down and the ring semi welds its self to the cylinder. usualy the bond is not strong enough to keep the engine from turning over again but the rings are shot and the cylinder is heavily scored causing massive compresion loss. i hope this is not the case but if it is the engine needs to be rebuilt. youll need to do a compretion check to find out. i hope im wrong in this case , good luck with it.

I found cylinders 1 and 2 full of coolants, as result of overheating!!!

What kind of damages am I looking at? Would it be more cost effective to replace the engine with a salvaged unit or rebuild it???

Head gasket is blown, obviously. The million dollar question is there any coolant in the oil from this? If so the bearings are shot, if not you may get away with a head gasket and resurfacing the head.

 

I did'nt see coolants on the dipstick nor higher fluid level off it. So, I guess no but I did see scorched signs in cylinders 3 and 4.

any sure way of checking this?

Oil would turn a milky brown color. That is what you are looking for in the oil.
