CV joint ? Differential?

Well this is what happened ran the quarter mile and well when I tried to turn afterwards I heard a metallic ping, I check everything out and it seems fine so I keep driving. I try to turn again and the steering wheel fights me a lil, well I go to a parking lot and lock the wheel all the way left and the car drives fine but then it happens, the front wheels make a popping sound and the wheels kind of lock up then it pops again and they drive fine, feels like the front tires arent moving but only happens at full lock. Further investigate and when you break the wheel in full lock either way the rpms at idle go down about 300. What do ya'll think? the metallic pinging seems to come from the driverside front.

sounds like u broke ur front diff!!! Jack up the front of the car, put in gear and rotate the left tire, the right tire should go the opposite way without any hessitations. If it doesnt rotate or if it locks up, u have a broken front diff. Good luck!! If you need a new spider gear in the front diff call john at tre. www.teamrip.com Is ur car an 03?

Team Rip is awsome, i'd highly recommend them if you planning on doing more 1/4 mile runs. The dealership might cover it. Once they get in there, if they see signs of abuse, you might be paying.

I've got this exact same problem. I drained the differential fluid but had no signs of metal shavings or anything. However, I thought it might be the axles so we pulled both axles to have the joints checked. don't laugh at me for not knowing the exact name of it but the connecting shaft that connects the axle to the differential? Anyway, that thing on the right side would not come out. It's like it's stuck in there. So this kinda has me scared that it is the differential. I jacked the car up and turned the wheels. I didn't get like a real hard lock up when i turned one wheel but I could feel something odd when i was turning the drivers side wheel. It would turn, the passenger wheel would turn backwards, then it would catch on something and I'd have to put some pressure on it to turn it but it would sorta break loose and keep turning. So am I screwed also? Is there any way to positively say it's my front diff before i pull the whole damn thing? I'm very lazy.
