Help me with my HFC decision..

Hey Guys,

Torn between the Random Technology 3" HFC and the WORKS HFC.

I know that the WORKS HFC will bolt nicely to a WORKS 3" DP and my HKS Hi-Power, but I don't know about the Random Technology.

Any ideas??

if you want a high flow cat or test, look no further

we have had SO many issues with random cats on other cars in the past, we won't even offer them anymore

If you really want to get a high-flow cat, I'd recommend getting one w/ a metal substrate (Helix, APS) as they flow better than their ceramic counterparts (WORKS). I'm not sure about the Ultimate Racing cats though. Had I known about this before I bought my WORKS cat, I would have gone w/ the Helix.

I've got a 3" Random Tech metallic substrate cat. I like it, but it does set CELs so plan to get an O2 sim with it. I also don't expect it to pass emissions when that comes around. It does do a good job of cleaning up the smell of the exhaust though and keeping the volume of the exhaust livable.

I was just in the same situation and was talked into a test pipe... Honestly I didn't care about emmisions, I just didn't want to deal with CEL's. So I got the UR 3".

To me, throwing CELs is a a good thing! That means higher flow! My cat never throws a CEL since it's not flowing enough!

Hmmm.. so the random tech cat flows better than the Helix huh? What are the issues people have had with them? The construction of the Helix looks a little better though with thicker flanges.

My Random Tech was a custom install. I bought the cat as a universal fit and had it welded into my Buschur test pipe. FWIW, my old Buschur/Catco HFC never set a CEL.

HI RT HF Cat here.

I was able to make good power with the cat. It does fire an O2 cel after awhile, but it's been fine with a single spark plug anti-fouler mechanical fix.

Good luck,
