Buschur GT-35 impressions.
Just got done (almost) installing the Buschur Racing GT 35R. I still have to put the exhaust back on (open down pipe at the moment). I started it up, and much to my surprise there are no leaks anywhere! I was thinking I might have trouble with the water lines since I had to re-bend the stock lines to go around the larger compressor housing. No oil leaks either
I used exhaust sealing compound on the O2 housing to downpipe connection since the kit did not come with a gasket, and that stuff takes two hours to fully set up. After that I will put the rest of the exhaust back on and take her for a spin. Only glitch in my view is that the new spal fan is on all the time (when the key is on) the way I installed it. I will probably leave it that way for the summer, and get a relay and some sort of thermostatic control for it before winter hits.
Later,
Keith
PS: I will do data logging with the new turbo and compare it to the EVO 6.5 TME turbo I had on until yesterday. I will post results on spool up and transient response here.

1st impressions are "Holy $hit!"
Here are the boost pressures as read on my AEM EMS when doing a 3rd gear pull from 2000 RPM up to 7200 RPM. This is with no boost controler installed, just going by spring pressure (18.9 psi spring) in the TIAL wastegate. The AEM EMS typically reads 2 psi lower than my boost gauge.
2000 RPM go WOT
2500 RPM .8 psi
3000 RPM 1.3 psi
3500 RPM 2.5 psi
4000 RPM 6.0 psi
4500 RPM 10.4 psi
5000 RPM 16.0 psi (WG starts to open, rapid boost rise stops)
5500 RPM 16.5 psi
6000 RPM 17.2 psi
6500 RPM 18.0 psi
7000 RPM 18.5 psi
Here is the same range with the EVO 6 TME turbo:
2000 RPM 2.6 psi
2500 RPM 5.2 psi
3000 RPM 10.0 psi
3500 RPM 18.4 psi
4000 RPM 19.6 psi (target boost)
With boost control enabled I think the GT 35R will reach target boost right after 5000 RPM since it was going up VERY fast when the WG started opening.
Now on to transient response:
Shifted from 2nd to 3rd at 8000 RPM, from going back to WOT after the shift to full boost (17 psi) was .8 seconds. This is with the WG starting to open at 16 psi slowing down the response time a bit.
Same situation with the 6.5 TME turbo was .5 seconds. This is with boost control shutting off all boost signal to the WG until set pressure is reached, thus speeding up respool time.
I will get more data logs over the next week or so as I put the boost control system back on line.
Later,
Keith

PS: Just finished putting the manual controler in line paralleled with a solenoid controled by the AEM EMS. I will use the solenoid along with a switch in the center console to give me my "low boost" setting of spring pressure of the wastegate, and the switch will close that solenoid allowing the manual boost controler to give me my "high boost" setting

I went ahead and installed the manual boost controler, and the solenoid used for the AEM EMS boost control in parallel. Now all boost readings are about the same until 5000 RPM where the wastegate used to start opening. Here are the new numbers for above 5000 RPM:
5500 RPM = 18.5 psi (before I was hitting 18.5 psi at 7000 RPM, 1500 RPM improvement!!!!!)
6000 RPM = 19.3 psi
6500 RPM = 19.7 psi
7000 RPM = 19.8 psi
7500 RPM = 20.1 psi
On to transient response once again:
Shifted from 2nd to 3rd at 8000 RPM, from going back to WOT after the shift I reach 17.5 psi in .6 seconds now. Right on par with the EVO 6.5 TME turbo!

I replaced the stock plugs with some BPR7ES plugs gapped to .023 and had the following results in 3rd and 4th gear (got brave and did 4th gear pull)
RPM........ 3rd gear boost......4th gear boost
2500 ------- .6 ------------ 1.0
3000 ------- 1.6 ------------ 1.9
3500 ------- 2.9 ------------ 3.4
4000 ------- 6.5 ------------ 8.1
4500 -------12.0 ------------ 15.4
5000 -------18.5 ------------ 18.5
5500 -------19.2 ------------ 19.3
6000 -------20.1 ------------ 19.8
6500 -------20.9 ------------ 20.6
7000 -------21.0 ------------ 21.2
7500 -------21.8 ------------ 22.2
It is clear that the Wastegate is starting to open up at about 18 psi of boost, would the rise in boost from that point to redline be considered boost creep? I went with the 1.3 bar spring (18.9 psi) because I figured the wastegate would open at 19 psi and boost would stay there... I am gaining 3 psi more than I wanted by 8,000 RPM now. I can live with 22 psi on pump gas since we get 93 octane here, but should I switch to a lighter spring and then raise boost up to 19 with the boost controler? If that will give me more consistant boost I think that may be my next project.
Keith
PS: No ignition issues with the new plugs gapped to .023, but I ordered the Buschur Racing coil on plug setup today anyway in anticipation of using the alcohol injection and even higher boost pressures.
