Intercooler installed..Boost dropped

Like the title says, I put in a nisei intercooler last week and noticed thatmy boost dropped from 21.5 to about 19.5-20. I think I heard that its normal due to a colder charge but I just want to be sure. Is that normal?

Yes, you have a bigger IC so you'll get a little pressure drop. Just turn the knob on your MBC and its all gravy.

Agreed, larger IC's will have a slightly larger pressure drop.

However it does slightly lean out your mixture, but I doubt it's enough to worry about. So I would just increase boost like Kwman stated and you should be good to go.

The larger intercooler will have more volume to fill, so your boost control settings will need to be changed in order to run the previous boost levels.

The information above is NOT correct. A good intercooler core that is larger will have LESS pressure drop than the stock intercooler, not more.

Our intercooler kit for the EVO will gain boost compared to the stock unit, that is if it is installed without any leaks.

Go back and double check all your connections on your intercooler, make sure you don't have a leak, you shouldn't have lost boost.

I didn't lose any psi when I installed my BR Intercooler Boost was more responsive. I didn't have to turn anything up.

He is right that a *good* core should have less pressure drop. However I am almost positive that it is possible for a sub par core to create a larger pressure drop.

So I should actually be making more boost since there is less pressure drop. I am going to look for leaks..it's probobly my lower piping or possibly the weather?? yo

Nickracer9, ow much did your boost go up? (mods)

When I installed my BR intercooler I lost a couple of pounds. I checked for leaks and everything seemed good to go so I just turned it up and the car has been driving great for the past 4-5 months.

With a GOOD core, GOOD end tank design and NO leaks the boost should increase even if you are installing a larger intercooler. If the intercooler is too large you may get more lag as the intercooler will have to fill its huge capacity along with the engine but the PSI should go up or atleast remain what it was.
