Oil consumption??

Does anyone else's evo seem to "burn" oil? I have had to change the oil once and my car was down 1/2 quart. Its due to be changed again and its down a 1/2 a quart. There isn't any oil spots under my car or anything that would indicate a leak. Any thoughts??

How did you break the car in? I followed the Mitsu recommended break in method exactly as indicated in the manual. My EVO does not consume any oil between changes.

While I can't say this for sure, it seems like a lot of the people who followed "alternative" break in methods (i.e. dino oil; follow a "rev-the-****-out-of-it" guide found on the inter-web) have more problems with oil consumption once the car is broken in.

Any one else care to comment on their break in method versus oil consumption?

how many miles on your car?

My oil was REALLY dirty and needed to be flushed outta the entire engine.

I burnt like 1 quart in the 3000 miles

I haven't seen any burnt oil. Been thru numerous oil change and oil level was the same where it was left during the oil change.

My car has 12k miles, I only noticed very minor oil loss which does not required to top off. I track my car a lot, a few thousands miles are track miles- road course. I follow the break in as recomended by Mitsu.

I just posted a thread about my similar problems... It has absolutely nothing to do with break in. People need to stop staying this just because car and driver said it. It doesn't matter at all. I will bet anyone that I broke my car in easier than most people. I drove it like a B!tch... I never saw boost until 1,200 miles... Never saw above 4K for 1,200 miles. If anything, being so easy on the car may cause oil consumption in my experience. car only had 10 miles on it from the dealer. 1 quart of oil consumed per 1,000 miles is considered acceptable by mitsu service dept. So unless you're burning more than this and aren't leaking, they're not going to do a damn thing for you.

I wonder how boost effects oil consumption... Higher boost may burn more oil? Or maybe I should try using a 15w-30...

damn, so when its time to change in 3k miles.....you don't have to worry about draining much out by their standards.....they do that so they can save on the oil disposal prices!

damn cheap *** mitsu

as people have pointed out already Mitsu says 1quart of oil every 1000 miles is normal.

I broke my car in per mitsu's recommendation too and my evo consumes about 2 quarts of oil b/w every oil change so go figure...

How do you race? Do you even race?

Track cars and hard racing will burn some oil period. If you drive it hard you will burn oil period.

Ha, are you kidding?

1 qt every thousand miles on a race track at 5k and above MIGHT be normal....but not driving daily....

Did the guy who started this thread say anything about racing? NO, so keep your ignorant comments to yourself.
