Review of new Buschur "RACE" fmic kit

Guys - this week I recieved my new Buschur RACE fmic which consists of a massive 1150 whp capable fmic core and wonderful end tanks

Before - I had the AMS fmic which has served me well - going 9.98 in the 1/4 mile but which was outsized by the new GT40R turbo I am using and 40 plus psi of boost I am running

After not realizing any significant gains on the GT40R from the Gt35R I knew something was up

After reviewing the situation and my data with David Buschur and Harry at Precision Turbo it was detemined that a larger fmic was needed to lower the intake charge temps

I was hoping for a slight pick up

I am shocked to see my intake charge temps drop 45 degrees and the power pick up 53 WHP!!!!!!!!!!! Back to back testing no extra tuning, modification or adjustment of any kind what so ever

BTW this A - B test was with no NOS at 38 psi

Major props to David Buschur for designing a fmic which picks up 50 plus whp - with some tuning adjustments for the new fmic I could reallize even more power

I will post pictures of this fmic tonight

The little dip at 68 mph is my clutch saying its time for the upgarded pressure plate

Even I am impressed and I built it!

Great job Al. You know you deserve the times you have run, you work harder than anyone else I know on constantly improving your car!

With the numbers you posted I guess we will be bolting our new intercooler on our own car this week! Maybe even the RS with the stock turbo can benefit!

Great job!

Great, but one question, at what point we should upgrade from units like the Buschur and AMS fmic kits that are rated for over 600whp to that new monster fmic? I am guessing its only for people with serious hp in mind. Right?

650 whp is the point I would say that you would start seeing significant gains with going with a larger thicker core and 3" piping over 2.5". Not to say you CANT make over 650 whp with the smaller stuff, but past that point bigger stuff will make more numbers.

If you notice in the video of our shop car, we too built a big race fmic for the car. It mimicks the regular one so its sometimes hard to tell. We too saw quite a few gains from going to 3" piping, big TB, and big race core.

As well as Buschurs and our products are designed, there is just a physical limitation of bolt on stuff. You evo guys are getting spoiled, having direct bolt on 600+ whp pieces like FMICs and ****. Us poor 1g and GVR4 guys have to custom build and hack our cars up to put almost ANYTHING on them.......Bastards........

As soon as this new dyno gets into our shop I want to do some more dyno testing. One of the things I am going to test is this intercooler I sent to Al compared to our other EVO FMIC's on a stock turbo'd car.

This intercooler that Al is running is quite a bit heavier than the other FMIC's we sell. It's bigger, but with a 53 whp gain I'll take a hit on a little bit of weight. Could be huge power gains for pump gas cars too.

I am not positive but I think the guys over at AMS use the same core as I do on their normal FMIC, just the end tanks are a little different between our kits.

Also, Al did these numbers with our 2.5" upper i/c pipe on the car. I actually built the intercooler for him to use our 3" upper i/c pipe and the intercooler has a 3" outlet. He wanted a quick comparison and did not want to change the upper i/c pipe so he reduced the intercooler back down to 2.5" with a coupler and did the pulls. Al's car is also running our 65 mm throttle body, which is a modified stock throttle body. I am curious to see what he can gain when he puts on our 3" upper pipe and makes a thottle body change.

My brothers car has made 633 whp on a 2 liter, to the front wheels on our old Dynojet. This was using the stock ported intake manifold and our 65 mm throttle body too. Also using our 2.5" upper i/c pipe.

It would be interesting indeed to see what owuld happen with this fmic on a stock turbo car. At some point the xtra volume may start to become a factor??? I am interested to see the results of that test.

One thing is for sure - this is the ultimate fmic I have ever seen.

I have been running the Buschur standard FMIC core on my 2g DSM. The setup was a custom one done 2 years ago by Buschur. With my new setup this year, it seems like I have started to push the limits of this core as well as my intake temps are getting out of control too. The car made 608whp on a AWD dynojet. It seems like the 600whp number is about where the standard runs out of gas and the "race" core is really going to shine.
