I have a JIC Magic header.. Expensive as hell at the time, it was for the earlier Evo but it works.. All of the headers I've seen from SSAutochrome and whatnot have basically been copies of that header, with the exception that the flanges and pipes are substantially thicker and sized for the best compromise in velocity and flow. I also have the DNP O2 housing.

Is a header worth the money.. Well, honestly, no... your money would be better spent on the ported and polished stock manifold and O2 housing. If your looking for 10/10ths out of your setup, then maybe the header might produce a bit more power, but I would strongly recommend the durability of the P&P stock parts over the header. I bought that header when I had a good chance on a good deal and before I had made any firm decisions on my upgrade path other than I was looking to get the most power I can out of the stock turbo.

Please recall that my response that 20 whp was a bit much was directed to the following post about the Buschur header:

I actually have the Buschur ported stock header on my car - unless the ported 02 housing multiplies the effect of the ported header, I do not think that it increases whp by 20 hp. Then again I can only speak for my setup.

That said - please post the dynos of the before and after w/ header & o2 housing - I would be very interested to see the difference between that and stock. I am assuming from your post that nothing else was changed.

I was under the impression it was about 10hp for each.

The Buschur mani is perfect for someone like me who wants to put on a part and then forget about it. Do I ever need to worry about cracking? Nope.

That's also why I like the Works 02 housing. It's cast, comes with the stock support mount and won't ever crack. Zero worries.

Pics of ss autochrome are on their ebay site:

Their corp site gave me trouble loading: www.ssautochrome.com

DNP:

JIC:

As far as gains that's why I asked EVIL_EVO_VIII to

- to date I have never seen anyone dyno with just this one change. That said a lot of people have mentioned that they noticed gains in midrange torque with the tubular headers.

I was sold on dnp at one time, but beofre you spend the money compare one side by side w/ an SSautochrome.

I don't disagree. Not only has the Buschur stock ported & coated mani been reliable on my car but the coating looks nice (no rust) and it seems to keep the engine temps down. I will say this, my friends that have DNP/SS Autochrome headers that kept the stock 02 housing have had much better luck with it not cracking than those that went with aftermarket housings. My thought on this is that this is due to the support provided by the stock one 02 housing.

I know - its a beautiful piece. I just keep thinking that I'll have to buy the works downpipe as well to fit....

My honest impression is that I don't think it adds that much. However its not backed up by testing so take that for what it for what its worth.

on another tangent - my best friend has almost the exact same setup (except headwork) as mine w/ a SS autochrome header (both cars have stock 02 housing) - his midrange is noticeably better than mine. I make more peak, but I attribute that to my head. Then again, I think Shiv said that I may have lost mid due to my head so what do I know...

FWIW, on 100 octane I put down almost the same power as a TME car with cams and test pipe. I attribute that to the WR and Works 3" 02 housing (plus I had a HFC).
