Aftermarket coils/MSD won't work on a PowerFC w/o a 1G DSM ignitor due to inverted trigger edges. A buddy of mine just did this, and I actually helped with some wiring logistics on his EVO with a PowerFC and aftermarket coils. You need to trigger the 1G ignitor with the PowerFC and then trigger the CDi box with the external ignitor. Then feed the coils.

The COP we have can be put on and run right just as it comes to you. Whoever said that later if you need more spark you can then wire in the MSD DIS box is absolutely correct, at that point I don't think there is a better ignition anywhere for any money.

About the misfires from the COP you made yourself. It could be from a couple of things actually. Our COP by itself does NOT misfire at part throttle but by itself will not support huge HP levels. Wired in directly with the MSD DIS box the COP's on the EVO's will get some misfires and weird driveability. There is one more part that needs to be added:0)

I think that was referring to my "Home brew setup" actually the only issues I had with it was the wiring harness working itself loose on occasion. I used a Motec CDI-2 and triggered it with a DSM Ignitor (Though someone recommended using Viper ones) I had very few misfires with it, the only problem was the wiring without a real good quality harness was a PITA to deal with. For an expensive ignition box, turns out the DLI-II ended up working just as well for me, I just want the COP coils instead of the stock ones..

Dave, can you get me another one of the HKS wiring harnesses if I give you the part number?

11secEVO7,

I could be wrong as I haven't used a Power FC, but I don't think you are going to have a problem. We include an ignitor and the coils, MSD and other components we include work fine with the stock EVO ECU, so I am going to assume they would work with the Power FC.

MalibuJack,

I was referring to you, I must have read wrong. I thought you said you had some misfires in the driveability part of the car. Sorry. Yes, I can get another one of the harnesses.

I know this is kinda off topic. But I saw a Evo equipped with a prototype ignitionsolutions.com setup. The owner said it performs much better than the HKS DLI2 and is much more visually appealing then the Buschur coil-on for his Vishnu stage 3 turbo (3037S). I took a couple picture I'll post later on.

I went to ignition solutions website and there is nothing there. More visually appealing than ours, that's interesting as ours fits UNDER the factory spark plug cover or ANY aftermarket spark plug cover on the market.

Also interesting that this one performs better than the HKS DLI2, this was proven by what?

David,

What are your thoughts on the AEM C2di compared to the MSD Dis-2/4? Also, if using the DIS-2/4 and running an AEM EMS how would you go about setting up the ignition cut for 2-step/Anti-lag since cutting the coil ouputs from the AEM will disturb the the signal the DIS-2/4 sees? Should one use the 2-step ignition cut feature used on the DIS-2/4 and disregard the ignition cut options in the AEM EMS and just cut fuel?

Yeah it was a prototype kit for the evo. The performance was proven by butt dyno I guess

You really can't beat the DLI-II for the price.. my homebrew setup cost almost twice as much, and I'm probably not going to swap it back on even if I had the right connectors now. I can see the value of coil on plug, but the DLI-II was such a simple and quick install, and required no proprietary hardware to get it working, and it can be quickly removed if something goes wrong, how can you complain, plus at $500 or so, its a bargain compared to other solutions. And it works very well for all but the most extreme applications.

There's no question that a COP setup has more visual appeal, but don't choose one for that reason if the DLI-II can do the job for you.

Where did you mount the DLI box?

For the time being, I found a spot right near my mini-battery.. But its so small and the harness is long enough to get almost anywhere convenient. I have other electronics under the hood, so I'm making up a new bracket to mount everything side by side..

Good point. From the picture it is hard to tell how big the box is, but it can't be that large given the relative size versus the connectors.

About how big is the box?

Its about 3.5" x 3.5" x 1" ..... Roughly half the length of the MSD and AEM boxes..
