Need advice on internals of head/motor

I will be building my motor in not too long. I drag race the car and thats its purpose so I dont want a 2.4 liter or any stroker motor. I would like to safely rev it to at least 9.5k and shift at around 8.5k to 9k.

What should I throw in it and why that over other competitors brand (Rods, Pistons, Springs, etc...) I would love info on both the headwork and the motor work. Thanks for anyone that can help.

Eagle rods are cheap and take 10,000rpm all day, but Crower or Pauters are stronger if you want to spend the extra $$. Wiesco and Ross make good pistons. Ditch the balance shafts while your in there, stay mild with the port work and get a set of Crower springs with the Ti retainers, ARP studs and a stock HG, should be bulletproof. I run the Eagle/Ross bottom end, GD head with Crower springs, OEM HG and ARP studs. Haven't lost a drop of water from a blown HG and turns 10k on 40+psi boost.

Thanks Curt... I dont mind spending the extra cash. I was thinking of Oliver or Pauter Rods with Ross pistons. I didnt know anything about the head work on the Evos. I also didnt know the stock HG would hold well. Thanks a bunch... hopefully I will get some time and buy a new car and pull the motor and get it all done.

I dont have a builder I dont trust most people either. I trust Curt though so Ill go that route. I think I may have my guy from Chicago build it all for me if he can get it done moderately fast.

Curt, do you do any tricks in the oil pan to keep the oil "somewhere near" the bottom of it?

Windage tray, scraper etc?

Thanks, Respectfully,

JDB

i have pauter HD rods (slightly heavier but well worth it) and am getting weisco pistons from switzer when i build my motor soon...still not sure on who is doing the head though....either switzer or maybe someone else if i can get a deal....the garage defeat seems promising since i know i can trust what Curt says...

Well I will probably use a friend of mines shop to build the motor for me. So you could look up the cost of parts online anywhere. He is extremely ****-retentive and does good work but I dont know for sure who I will go with yet. I might talk with Adam from Devo and see if he wants to do it for me. I really got no idea. I need a rollcage and all the other BS associated with going fast on a track before I build the motor. I plan to start bracket racing very regularly and see if I can start making a decent side living on racing so I kinda need the regulation stuff before the fun stuff.

The bottom end has a stock windage tray, should be enough.

Since you are close to AMS maybe just have them do it. I got my bottom end parts from Martin and had a local machine shop hone the bores to spec, then clean and assemble it. When I installed the head I coated a new OEM 4 layer HG with Hylomar on both sides, this seems to be the way to go, not a drop of water lost.
