!! Lots of oil in catch can !!

Noticed that I was getting some oil spray from the breather filter when I had it on so I changed to a catch can. After about 100 miles of driving, if that, this is what came out of the can.

I never had any problems with the breather filter spewing oil until I put the turbo kit on. I assume its because the turbo is biger pushing more air and increasing crank case pressure. But that seems like a lot of oil. And on the dipstick it's just spread out on the stick. I clean it and check again put its way past the fill marks and I only put 4.5 qrts in. Car runs fine, no odd noise, other than I think I have another boost leak. Any suggestions? PCV valve shot maybe? Maybe the HKS intake is pulling too much from the tank and return line? And whats up with the dipstick? Thanks.

wow, that does look like a lot.

I get more on the PCV side, only a trace on that side, but this is stock turbo. Do you have a catch on the ventilation side as well, and if so, does that one catch a lot of oil?

I had a similar problem.

People I talked to, all adviced me to get a leak down test.

maybe that will answer some questions for you.

berkel, I dont have a catch can on the PCV side.

nils, did that solve the problem?

I'm looking to get things back together as fast as possible because I gotta sell this thing. Well I don't realy gotta but I'm looking for something different. Anyone know someone that is wanting an Evo let me know, very resonably priced, more likely a steal.

I think the hose I had in the intake pipe was pulling way too much and started sucking the oil out rather than assisting in getting the oil out of the return hose. Car runs great.

Yes! IF you had the other side of the catch can to the intake (inlet pipe) then that big turbo is pulling the oil out. Try a breather and I bet you will never see oil in it. (breather on other side of catch can)

Reviving a very old thread:

In the comment above, what hose are you taking about? Is that the hose that runs from the bottom of the intake hose to the driver's side of the valve cover?

I just built a 2.2l motor with an FP Red and I'm getting excessive oil being pushed through the PCV and breather hose. I'm filling my catch can after only a few hot laps on track. I've done a leak down and everything appears to be fine with engine internals. I've also added a proper racing catch can with breather and the problem persists.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

One solution for you might be Buschur's catch can. It replaces the dipstick tube and essentially dumps the oil right back into the pan.

Thanks! I was looking for something like this, and thought for sure I'd have to fabricate it.
