EGT probe snapped off... [Pictures]

So, I'm driving down the road and 'Hey, my EGT reading is at 200c... that’s odd.' I get home and check all the wires... ok, looks good... the only other thing it could be it... uh oh that's bad... I took out my probe on the #2 runner and the tip of it has snapped of for some reason or another. My worry is that it damaged the turbo. Is this a viable concern? What else could it have hurt?

Could that little part really have hurt the turbine much? Here is a small pic of what it looked like before.

How long have you bee running that probe? Was it a shielded high temp one? I'm guessing it may not be a bad idea to check them at oil changes, I'm looking to run quad egt soon (http://redlinegauges.com/) and was worried about this happening.

I've had it on the car for about 6 months with no problems.

I would stick with a wideband that way it's downwind of the turbo. That's just me though.

My probe broke off the same way, it was a Greddy EGT and worked fine for about 6 months and then for no reason my temp was'nt reading right, the needle kept fluctuating up and down (not normal) when I took it to the shop they told me that I needed a new sending unit and after bringing it in they had to take my manifold off the retrieve the broken piece. It's very frustrating but you should get that piece out. (I always use Mobil 93 unleaded)

I'm not sure where yours would be, where did you have it probed?? I had mine probed into my manifold so that broken piece would have been detramental!!

Tons of people have lost turbines because of broken EGT probes. It is a very common issue. Besides the fact that an EGT gauge is next to useless, the fact that probes break off all the time is the main reason I no longer run an EGT gauge.

If you mount the probe after the turbine, the readings you get are even more useless than normal.

It just isn't worth it to run one.
