Is 23lbs of boost safe for me?

I've got an 05 GSR Model. I have a TBE, MBC, and AEM Intake and was just lucky enough to get a custom flash from TurboTrix when they vistited my city. The tuner and I never discussed my boost level and I dont think he even messed with it but before I got there I had set it to 21lbs. Long story short he flashed it and I loved it. Just yesterday i started experimenting and turned the boost up to 23lbs. I was considering running 24lbs of boost on some 104 Octane tomorrow. What do you guys think? I need some advice. Am I running too much boost? Will my wastegate and stock BOV be able to handle 23 or 24lbs of boost? Thanks.

On 104oct, hell yeah, run 23-24psi with no problem. It won't be as helpful as if you had your own tuning device to account for the better octane, but you can run the boost safely without knock. Just don't run more than 21 on pump gas, especially in hot weather.

The wastegate isn't a concern, but the stock BOV will definitely leak out some of that excess boost, so again, you won't get quite as much of a gain as with a proper setup, but it should still be nicer than your regular, everyday setup.

How do you know you have no knock? I'm quite certain that you are getting knock and pull timing unless it's somehow less than 50 degrees in San Antonio. Here in the DC area, in 80-degree weather, all of us were experiencing knock with pulled timing on anything over 21psi with 93oct due to the heat and humidity. We got just as much power with better hp/tq curves by turning our boost down some...

If you were tuned on 21psi then you might want to leave it there depending on how conservative their tune was. If you're running race gas it's usually safe to turn the boost up a little bit.

I personally perfer to run around 19.5 psi on pump 93. Higher boost means more heat and higher EGT's which can be bad during hot summer weather... so higher boost doesn't always mean more power.. it can cause the motor to pull timing if knock is present.

I normally run around 23psi on GT100 race gas which takes my AFR from low 11's to high 11's. Car feels like a monster on race gas

just my .02

I am tuned on a 23lb spike and it holds 22.5 for a bit then tapers to 20psi at 7200rpm. It will only hold 23lbs if I use a 5th gear load. As for losing timing, I am probably pulling some in this weather(95deg.), but Al has me at or below 10:1 a/f from 3.5k to 5.5k which is where the car is at 22.5+psi of boost to keep the car from knocking. He then leans me out to 11.8ish a/f because the boost is around 21ish psi around then and holds 20 to about 7200rpm.

i'm tuned on 22.5 psi.

i used to run 23 psi daily on 93 octane.

it ran lean a bit without the fuel pump.

if you go over 21psi, you should invest in a fuel pump before trying to go up more.

Fuel pump tend to fail after that point, i've noticed... or what i've experienced.

I run 21psi daily. Used to spike to ~23 before I got flashed. No problems. No knock, a/f is fine. I'm planning on turning mine up once I get a boost controller.

All these people claiming to run 23psi on a daily basis confuses me. You probably make less power trying to run 23psi (steady, not spike) than if you ran 20, due to the inherent knock that comes into play with 93oct and summer heat. If you claim no knock or pulled timing whatsoever, please go do it at the drag strip and show us the results. I would expect no less than 110mph (113 w/cams) from all of you if your 23psi is working so well...

113 with cams on pump gas? What crack you smokin?

23psi falling off to 18-19 at redline is tuned for and run all the time. Now, if you guys are running stock timing, thats a different story. 23psi with stock timing is too much on 93 octane.

What, is 113 too low? I was trying not to go overboard with it, so I kept it low at 113, which I bet most of them can't do. We're also talking 23psi HELD, not with a 5psi taper. When I say I run 21psi, I mean that it spikes initially above 21, but then holds at 21 for the majority of the rpms until tapering off slightly above 6500 due to the stock turbo's limitations. When these guys say 23, I'm expecting a spike to 24-25, then holding 23 steady from 4500-6500 or so...

without wastegate line modification, none of these guys are holding 23psi above 5500....

and no, 113 is high for pump gas and stock turbo.....it can be done, but its HIGHLY unlikely.

Ive done just about every bolt on imaginable....and still only hit about 111 on pump gas.
