"BR7ES gapped at .025" and all your woes will be gone guaranteed"

That may have worked well for you but it didn't work too well for me.

From my personal experience, I have been getting the misfire code ever since the car was new and stock. The only time that it happens is high rev 4500-7000 RPM with open and close throttle. In fact I got one today.

Basically if I rev up to those rpm and keep it there and throttle back and forth a little bit... "Sevice Engine Soon" light comes on with momentary loss of power. I can induce this EVERYTIME!! (I've had the code read 3X and it's always the same code and induced the same way.)

I did changed my plugs to BR7ES and gapped it to both .24 and .25 with same result. I have 12K miles on it and change the plugs out every 3-4K miles.

Mitsubishi have applied the technical bulletin and reprogrammed my ECU to help rectify the problem but it didn't help me at all. (You get a sticker on the ECU after the programming.) This is free. You should get this done because it might work better on your car.

I do not get this misfire if I'm WOT and accelerating, even if I were to go to redline. This ONLY happens when I maintain high RPM in any gear. Strange!!

I will drive with the CEL on until I get home then I reset it. I reset it by taking out the 20Amp fuse in the engine and keep it out for about 10 seconds. It resets the light and I'm good to go until it happens again. The fuse tool is behind the tray in front of your left leg if you need to use it. (I use it).

I have accepted this anomaly and rarely induce the CEL but I did it today though. I reset it and I'm good to go until the next time... whenever that is.

Sorry this might not help much but it just shows that you're not alone with the random multiple misfire code.

BTW: I've had the car for 2 years now and it's an 03.

and a much much lower price.

what would you rather have? better spark, or longer life? i'd much rather have better spark.

stock ignition system on copper/iridium plugs will have the same spark, you only get a better/bigger spark if the ignition system can put out more juice.

Copper plugs =~$2, iridiums(non-stock) =~$7, iridiums definitely will out last copper 3X

Also the fine point on Ir plugs makes it easier for the spark to arc across to the ground electrode

I have been haveing the exact same problem. So the dealer was unable to diagnose it? It just started for me recently, I have about 15,800 miles now on my 03. I tried changing the plugs to no avail. For me it only happens in 5th gear on the highway at part throttle. I cant believe nobody can figure this problem out! Im wondering if its a fuel issue or ignition issue. Could possibly be a voltage drop at the fuel pump or an injector on the fritz while trying to maintain speed at high RPMs. I also get a momentary power loss and i was thinking it was an actual misfire, is that just a safety measure taken by the ECU when setting a code? I dont get it really and I wish someone would figure it out cause it seems like so many people have this problem, even after getting the dealer ecu fix. What about an ignition upgrade like the HKS DLI2? Have people cured the misfire with that? I would try to test all these things but I just dont have the resources to do so at my disposal. Very frustrating new problem. Other thing is my clutch recently started slipping so Im wondering if its related but I doubt it

When i gapped my plugs to .025, my misfiring went away at high RPM's, but i get a CEL saying i get misfires at low RPM's. When i gapped to .029, i low RPM misfires went away, but i got misfires at high RPM's. So, guess u gotta get it somewhere in between :P

Changing the bad plugs will get read of the missfire.
Check the gap. The gap should be between .24 and .27 per manual. You gap them to your application, but stay between those meassurements.
exactly. +1

i never got that w/ coppers...only with these platinums and full throttle.
at lower rpms and cruising it was fine...but as soon as i opened the throttle
and rpms above 4k...it would make that sound...i wouldn't mind the sound
if it didn't affect the performance of the car.

maybe it's the hotspots...maybe it's something else...

i'd like to know tho...

getting mine sent back to bosch
