Aftermarket bigger alternator???

My alternator is dead for the 2nd time in 37K miles! I have a decent sound system - I run a couple of amps... total of approx 1500 watts, so I would like to go bigger than the OE 90 amp which is $400 anyway. Does anybody have any suggestions in regard to getting an aftermarket alternator that has more power and a good warranty? Looking to spend between $300-600.

You running any Caps?? Or a upgraded battery?? that could easily solve your problem. I installed a 2000watt stereo with 4 subs in my buddies avenger with a Optima Red Top & dual 1farad caps and he never had any issues. Might be over kill, but you could also look at getting a 5Farad Batt. Cap.

Yea I just installed an Optima Yellow top but unfortunately it was too late... altern was already on its way out. Caps help I guess... but it's more of a "bandaid" on the problem opposed to a solution.

Maybe the Optima will help if I go with another stock altern. Nobody seems to be making aftermarket alt. yet??? I can't find anything around...

I've been installing for almost 15 years now (come december)

Check with Ohio Generator...they might have a solution for you. As far as caps being bandaids...not really...they WILL help out. Optima batteries are pretty decent...but they honestly do not help out the charging and prevention of hurting your alternator.

i am currently getting a system installed with a 200watt amp for mids and 1500watt for subs. the shop that is installing it is a top notch shop, maybe one of the best in the country, and they recommended an extra battery. i currently have a mini battery so it was not going to be enough. if you are set on caps, then get an alumapro 5 or 15 farad. my friend has a s10 with 6 12s and he swears that the alumapro made a world of difference. he is also a pro installer. batteries do alot more than caps for storage and power. i had 2 one farad caps with the mini battery and they didnt do anything, lights still flickered, so now im going this route. depending on how much power your running, your optima should be enough.

No battery or cap will solve the problem. They only store the power the alternator makes. Extra batteries make the alternator work harder. The 5/15/50 Farad carbon alloy caps do absolutely nothing to help an audio system anyway. I would look at power wiring, grounds, or equipment problems for the cause because your problem seems extreme. I had 3200 watts in my Legend Coupe with the stock 7 year old 90A alternator going strong with no trouble.

I have used Ohio Generator in the past for upgraded alternators with good results if needed.

Alumapro Caps = worthless
Extra battery = very bad unless you plan to listen for a long time with the engine off.

What shop is this?
