exhaust "cut-out" on evo?

hey, i have a friend that used a cut-out or "y" pipe on his 02' camaro. well i want to know if anyone here has done this instead of a full exhaust? i spoke with a fellow evo owner months back he stated he was gonna do this and well now i want this too. i cant make up my mind of which exhaust so i figured i'd get something like this which i will place after the cat and have it remotely wired so i can run open exhaust at the flip of a switch. i dont know if u all know what it is im talking about so i will explain, for those who dont know. its a y shaped pipe that goes after or before the cat. one is connected to the cat back part the other is off to the side and is open.it has a flap that is electric that can move left or right to direct the exhuast either to the muffler or out the side open exhaust. now i figure this is good for those who either dont want to waste money on exhaust, but also for those who dont want droning during normal driving. let me know what u guys think. sorry for tha long post but it's been on my mind for a while. also i searched before posting so if its been posted i apologize. again all comments welcome. and for the record i will be doing this after i get my clutch fixed.

it is loud but since u can control it, its not a problem ya know? so at the track etc. u can run open exhaust for performance and sound.

yeah, my friend had it on an ls1 camaro. it did tend to jam sometimes but i cant say it did anything but improve his 1/4. he pulled a 12.6 pass with headers ram air. not bad right? he was consistanly in 12's with this nothing but basic muscle bolt-on's.

I've got one on my car, costs 30 bucks from jegs.com and 30 bucks for a shop to weld it into your test pipe. I picked that pipe because its the cheapest to replace. I got a manual cutout, comes with 3 wing nut bolts and you just open it when you want it, those electric ones alwayss break, leak or somthing else. I haven't had a problem with this yet, takes 2 seconds to get open

2nd. Electric ones suck.

I noticed about a 300rpm spool increase.

I may be selling my custom downpipe soon if you're interested... it's 3" from the O2 housing and has a 3" Y-pipe welded to it... on the straight end of the Y-pipe, it tapers down and fits the stock cat. Both sides are direct bolt-on, no welding needed to install.

For more details, refer to:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ust+dump+valve

Let me know if you're interested. =]

oh, and I'm selling because I may be changing my whole setup soon... requiring a different design of the downpipe where it connects to where the O2 housing would be.

I've never made a run at the track while having this much wtq and NOT break something on the first run of the day. =[

I may still run my car as it is at Import Showdown in a couple of months... which I'm sure I'll see you at. My new clutch, crankshaft, and main bearings has kept me away from the track for the past two months.

On the more positive note, I am beating cars from a roll that trap at over 120mph... which gives me somewhat of an idea of the traps that may be possible for me.

i have the cutout from QTP on a stock downpipe. really loud when you hit boost, the motor's broken once, but it was replaced for free and the flap had some trouble staying on, but lock-tite fixed that. i had the pull-type mechincal based cutout before this one and it broke even more frequently.

oh, and that thread where they mention that **** about the knock sensor going off and whatnot.. it can happen, but it doesn't for me and my car runs strong and boost hits like a ton of bricks.
