Switch to XEDE? Is it worth it?

I have been running my car on a S-AFC and using a MBC to control boost but I think it's time for something more complete. I was thinking of getting a XEDE since it controls much more in terms of tuning and has all those nice safe guards as well as S.M.A.R.T. But my ques tion is should I ditch the AFC and MBC and get the XEDE for engine management and will I be able to make more power and get optimal performance w/ the XEDE or my current setup? Thanks. Any insights are appreciated.

Yeah, go for it. You will have a much more complete tune, especially on pump fuel.

Like what exactly does the XEDE do that the AFC + MBC cannot. And how is the XEDE working for you? Have you had any problems w/ it?

Xede also controls timing which AFC cannot.

Works well. Lots of maps for different setups. As with any system it helps if a tuner that is familiar with it is close to you. SMART should help this situation however as I belive one of the intents of SMART is to help youlearn to tune your own setup.

Are those the two things that need to be controlled when it comes to tuning? Just AFR, Timing, and Boost? I would really like to know what is actually involved when you get a flash or get tuned. Thanks.

Essentially - Yes.

Although not specific to your application see:
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=135901

Also the stickies involving tuning on the Vishnu forum are good.

Vishnu Website also has this support section:

Yep. It also doesn't run out of injectors as quickly as an AFC will, and it is upgradeable to the SMART system, which will give you better overall driveability by allowing the XEDE to adjust it's level of tune based on current conditions.

Map switching is nice if you want to switch between racegas and pump gas maps. The XEDE can also control water/meth injection and has logging capabilities ... if you go into the Vishnu forums, look up pyxede, which is a freeware logger/road-dyno software for the XEDE. If you plan on getting an XEDE, you may also want to look at getting the XEDEflash with it, which bumps your redline to 7800 and allows you to run more boost (factory ECU will cut boost around 22 psi or so).

I ran a stage 1+ setup (very similar to yours, fuzzychi) for over a year and was very happy with it.

xede

Think twice about putting one on an 05 evo because vishnu does not have any maps for the 05's. Not sure how I am supposed to tune my 05 gsr with minor mods. It does allow me adjust the boost, but this is a pretty expensive MBC! Oh yea, you can buy the smart upgrade to take care of this problem! Pitiful operation in my opinion. Sell you a product for $1000 and then don't support it with software.

Um, 05 maps have been here for a while:

If there's any doubt, you can always call their office and be like "I need a map".

fuzzychi: In addition to what everyone has said, the lastest Xede version has addition features like launch control and no lift to shift. If I were you, I'd just call vishnu and tell them that you're interested. I'm sure they'd be happy to answer your questions.
