My White Rabbit Dyno - 364 on Buschur's MD
I stopped by Buschur's on Tuesday, tossed the car up on the dyno and did 3 pulls. I had the car tuned for 90 degree weather, so in the 70 degree weather the first run was very lean, though still didn't show signs of timing being pulled(meth doing its job). Second run was overly rich, third was pretty good, still a little lean up top. I had the boost cranked way up, trying to get it to hold in the higher rpms. For the 3 runs, boost started around 31 and ended up around 21. So a very large taper. On the track I never see more then 26(corrected, 23 logged) tapering to 21(corrected, 18 logged)
Dyno Chart - hopefully it's readable.
This brings me on to the other thing David and I talked about, surge. He noticed it when someone else drove his car. It might be his setup, it might be the turbo, he very openly said it. My car with the WR surges, during part throttle, mid - high rpm, 16+psi boost. My car also does it at lower rpms in 5th at over 24psi boost. Not as bad as the stock turbo at the same levels though. Once again it is probably just the same thing as David's, the setup of the two cars.
Ivan
Info about the car:
Buschur Stage 4, HKS 280's 0/0, ECU+, SMC Meth injection - 100% meth - clear, WR - standard actuator, MR header. 93 octane PA turnpike gas.

By surge do you mean a "chuffing" sound? Does the boost gauge fluxuate when you get surge? If so then I hit the same thing in 4th at mid rpm's 17-20 psi. I am going to try a few things this weekend to see it it resolves the "chuffing" which I think could be surge. What causes surging?

Surge, as in the car bucking, yeah you can hear the turbo getting backed up. It's not a good feeling when it does it. I normally drive around it, which involves getting out of it and going down a gear or 2. If it's part throttle, then I'll back out to under 15psi or so and it's fine.
As far as I know, surge is from the turbo providing more air flow then the motor is ready for, it then gets backed up in the intercooler pipe and slows or stops the compressor wheel.
One of the turbo experts can say if that is right or wrong or needs more added to make it 100% true.
Thanks, yeah J-Rod was saying it's the heatbreaker dyno. Me, I was suprised I pulled that number. I should be able to hit those mph also, but I'm out of 4th gear.

This thread was listed in a new thread listing bolt-on turbochargers and numbers achieved. So, sorry for resurrecting it. I'm dealing w/surge on my '03 WR8. Did you ever find a way to address this issue?
Thanks.
Thanks.

There really isn't a way with the smaller 8 housing. Beyond shifting and getting out of the lower rpm.
Reflecting back on this, open flashes didn't existing and I'm pretty sure I could get more power from the turbo with a flash. Also I never tuned anything below 5k, because I only tuned for the drag strip on the drag strip.
