help needed:weird starting problem

My car has 16,000 miles and is a 03. I went to the dealership to have my car checked out since it had trouble starting. I didn't think it was the battery because it wouldn't crank so I thought it was the starter and we even tried to jump it. When I went to get my car they said everything checked out okay but after I went home and then decided to go somewhere else it wouldn't start. But interesting fact is that every time I open my hood, the car would start normally but if it's closed then it won't. I tested this theory out and works everytime. Any ideas?

I'd start simple, and check your grounds. Make sure they're tight. Then check the hot side.

Do you have any mods?
